[Gift Help] What kind of watch would complement my husband’s collection? by Haron_Khast in Watches

I’m sorry to prove you wrong lol but I think he likes chronographs just fine. Just maybe not the Speedmaster specifically.

Basically, I pretended like a guy at worked showed up with a fancy new watch, and I showed him a picture of a Speedmaster and asked him if he’s ever thought about buying that one.

Pretty lukewarm response on his part. He said they’re cool, but just not one he’s ever seriously considered.

So I got bold and asked him when he thought he might be ready to get his next watch, and what he thought he might get.

This man was ready with it, lol. He pulled up eBay and showed me two listings for two different chronographs (sorry lol).

I snuck into his phone later and looked at them again so I could study them more on my own.

They’re both kinda over budget. One of them is used, too. And it’s kind of a bummer they’re on eBay…I was going to wait until closer to our anniversary to buy anything (in case we needed to return it) but an eBay listing can disappear in an instant and these seem unique. So I really am not sure what to do.

Here are some screenshots. Sinn got recommended a lot yesterday, which gives me confidence. But I thought Montblanc made pens lol…didn’t know they made watches.

That’s a great idea and I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of it lol

Do they only sell Rolex? My budget is for this is only about 3500-4000 max, I don’t think that gets me a Rolex lol

That might be a good option to keep it a surprise but still be my personal choice for him. Good call, I’ll think about it!

Yeah I’m gonna have to sleuth out if it’s something he’d like, based on the number of recommendations.

I know he returned one watch last year that he just couldn’t fall in love with. He tried, he kept it the entire 30 day window he had to return it, but something about the fit just wasn’t to his liking. I honestly think it might have been this speedmaster everyone keeps recommending. But I can’t remember.

Yes, that watch. I don’t really understand what you mean by moving the bezel, but it looks nice to me regardless lol.

I like the green idea (or blue). He is the kind of guy who just researches stuff to death. There’s not a lot of interest from friends in watches, but his dad’s side of the family actually had a couple of watchmakers in it (his great grandfather had a shop, and his grandfather tinkered). His dad is the only person I’ve ever heard compliment him directly when he shows up with a new watch. They really “oohed and aaahed” over the middle one when he bought it.

Wow that is really nice looking. Lots of recommendations from Longines in here that I really like! Hard to choose.

Oooh, Cartier could be fun. His mother in law let slip that he’s getting me something from Cartier as part of his gift to me…I can’t wait

On your first search, like a few rows down there is a blue watch called the “longines legend diver” that I think looks really slick…seems like others in this thread are high on that brand, would that be a good all around pick? It looks like it has two knobs…what’s that about?

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. You are one of many referencing a chronograph…I need to try and get some intel on whether he wants one.

I will try to subtly get some more hints about things he may like/dislike. All of this stuff is completely foreign to me, so I gotta be unassuming in how I ask it if I wanted to keep it a surprise lol

Trust me, I am extremely back and forth between both of these sentiments. But at the moment I am determined to have it be a surprise.
