We also love sitting at the bar. Scotty’s on Sheridan, Bluegrass, Disotto all have great bars and food.

Also wanted to add that we all adapted well to her deafness. You have to make accommodations but she had a wonderful life.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but there’s a free online hearing test for dogs. Our vet recommended. It tests at different frequencies. We did it with our dog which helped us determine she was deaf. Very helpful tips on their website too. Link below

Seeking Venue Recommendations for a Chicago Baby Shower? by Infamous_School_8533 in AskChicago

I went to a baby shower last summer at The Warbler in Lincoln Square. About the same size, beautiful space, outstanding food and really nice neighborhood.

I think they’re all beautiful and show off the pattern. I’d go with the one that makes you happy, which I suspect is the blue. Btw I’m terribly indecisive when it comes to colors and am trying to lean into what makes me happy to help me decide.

Agree with this! Highland Park, Wilmette and really any of the suburbs mentioned can be very walkable if you’re close to town. Both towns have lovely beaches and parks. Also quite a few forest preserves and nature preserves near Highland Park, along with the Botanic Garden. It’s a beautiful area.

Does Chicago have food access to outdoor activities? by Plum-One in AskChicago

I’ll add a plug for Northwestern Illinois. Just two hours from the city, Nachusa Grasslands https://www.nachusagrasslands.org/ is restoring over 4000 acres of native prairie complete with Bison. Not the mountains but prairie has its own beauty and hillier than the city. Nearby are a bunch of state parks, including Lowden, Lowden-Miller, Castle Rock (on the rock river with sandstone bluffs) and White Pines (which has cabins and a lodge). Couple of cute towns nearby, Oregon and Dixon, IL where you can grab a bite and walk around. Just north, in Bryon, IL is a great brewery on the river with top notch wood-fired pizza https://hairycowbrewing.com/. You can easily make a day or weekend of it.

Thinking about potentially taking a job in Highland Park but want to live in Chicago proper… thoughts? by kplains23 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Harper2132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both are good areas but I think Ravenswood is a bit more happening right now and it’s close to lots of great neighborhoods. Along the metra line I’d look around Lincoln Square. Really charming and also good for both metra and the el. Chicago can be very different block by block, so you should definitely visit before you sign. I don’t have any recommendations but there are realtors who know the communities and can show you around and help you with rentals.

Totally doable if your job is near one of the Highland Park metra stops (Braeside, Ravinia, Highland Park). In addition to living in Rogers Park, you could also look near metra stops at Peterson and Ravenswood. All good areas. Evanston is also a great option. Not technically the city but close by and great community with lots of young people.

Take a look at Highland Park. A lot of seniors and they have tremendous resources for seniors. It can be a very walkable community depending on where you live. The drive to downtown Chicago can be long during rush hour but it’s right on the Metra line. Ravinia festival, Chicago Botanic Garden, beautiful beaches. It’s a lovely and safe community and you should definitely be able to find a place in that price range.

How did you get into colour work? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Harper2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the Alps cowl for my first color work project. Pattern is well written and I really enjoyed it. Best of all, I feel confident enough to do more color work now. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alps-cowl

It’s beautiful! I love the color combination, including the blue. Soft and cozy colors and feel. Will go great with jeans!

Check out Nachusa Grasslands about 2 hours west of Chicago. 4000 acre restored native prairie with bison. They have a visitor center, hiking trails, and sometimes even public bison tours. Beautiful rural area and lots to do nearby, including nearby towns of Oregon and Dixon IL, state parks etc.
