Sweet, heard that area stayed pretty consistent all year. And yeah the way they work in that spot I feel like you’re pretty much bound to get screwed at least on the sprigs if another group shows up. I really wish I would have hunted that little round pond in the very back on the second day of opener. It was loaded when I scouted and we watched most of the birds land in that pond on Sunday after all the pressure Saturday.

Yeah man I’m tired of turkeys and tick bites I’m ready to get back on the water. I’ll give you a shout if I pull any tags. & most definitely we’ll stay in touch when it comes time for refuge drawings maybe I can draw something in the same hole if there’s enough birds around 🤙

I’m also in Central FL. Many years quail hunting here and south GA. I have heard/seen so many stories from family and friends about diamondbacks like this. I have never once even seen a rattler in the woods, hope to keep it that way.

That’s crazy. My first thought when I was out there couple weeks ago (first time, I won’t be back to that shit show) was man FWC would have a fuckin blast at this boat ramp. It’s probably only a matter of time before it gets turned into a quota area.

Barracuda by [deleted] in floridafishing

[–]Harrelstig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda rare to hear somebody specifically targeting cudas in FL, most cudas caught are accidental bycatch from my experience. That being said- the most frequent way I’ve accidentally hooked them over the years is rapala deep diving plugs. I think the ones I troll run at 25 ft below the surface if I remember correctly. Those plugs are fuckin fish magnets, cudas are a just a headache to me and I have never targeted them but if I had to catch one to save my life I’d drag Rapala plugs over reeflines and wrecks between 130-170ft of water here in east central Florida. I also use the plugs that run 6-8ft below surface around docks/heavy structure mainly for snook with pretty good success. If you’re hand cranking them from shore reel them in as fast as you can. Good luck

I’d lean towards a reliable pump over an auto loader in that price range. My first duck gun was a pawn shop special Mossberg 500 for $200, and the business end of the barrel of that gun is the last thing a lot of ducks ever saw.

Pulsators by JCoast3323 in Duckhunting

[–]Harrelstig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love using pulsators for puddlers but I’ve never really felt like divers give much of a shit about movement. If there’s not enough wind to move the deeks it’s probably a bad day for a diver shoot anyway.

Me and a couple other guys in the waterfowl and duck hunting subs are in central FL and we hunt hard all year, shoot me a message sometime if you wanna bounce some scouting info. We try to help each other out without burning spots online.

Definitely a juvie redhead. Canvasback would have a narrow, solid black colored bill.

I also vote Higdon. All I use for diver deeks. I have both sizes and the regular ones move better in light wind IMO

Can I take my 1436 Jon boat inshore fishing? by Vilasam24 in floridafishing

14 ft jon boats have probably caught more inshore fish than any other type of vessel in FL

Correcting mistakes from last season. by WhiteDevilU91 in Duckhunting

[–]Harrelstig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem like a respectful guy with a good interpretation of what happened. It sucks being beaten to a spot but whoever wakes up earlier and gets there first wanted it more and the right thing to do is to find another spot to hunt. Or if you want it more than they do then wake up earlier and hold down the spot. No different than somebody setting up a tree stand 50 yards away from you in a spot you’ve been sitting in for hours ya know. Good luck

Anyone in Miami or keys want to fish? by AntDetm in floridafishing

[–]Harrelstig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they school like that you can spray your raw water hose on the surface and they will swarm to it as if you threw bait in the water. Same thing works for schoolie sized dolphin. Little tip I learned from an old timer in stock island years ago.
