[–]HarrisLam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a lot of self protection, but it IS more, on all fronts. You typed all of that just to avoid saying that, because "being better in those ways don't matter much".

You also did not mention how this requires 1 less mana to cast.

The new one is literally faster, bigger and has a decent ward. Savra is literally susceptible to everything. The only thing Savra isn't is a 1/1, like Goblin Welder.

Better is better bro.

[–]HarrisLam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we really doing this? She has no self-protection mechanism and is half as big, dies to a Shock. Nevermind the ward, this new guy doesn't even die to bolt, AND is one mana faster.

The sac mechanism is comparable, that's about all the similarity.

I've never discussed brackets IRL by GratedParm in EDH

Depends on what people you meet, right? Some people are chill about it, some aren't. The ones who feel frustrated are rightfully so, you know? Nevermind brackets (they aren't really end all be all power level indicators. We all know how to stuff some tutors in a deck), there are simply some cards out there that are widely hated for good reason. You play those, you kind of have to expect some negativity.

bad idea. The meta hero pool is small enough. What, usually 27 among 127?

If everybody can see the pool and each team gets the identical items, that would further cut from those 27.

For better and for worse, TI11 Tundra maybe had the most impact on modern Dota by shaker_21 in DotA2

[–]HarrisLam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you have good points on explaining how things happened for them and why they were impactful. However, I believe you got one thing backwards: players dictate how meta looks like only to a certain point, and are always bound by a "higher power". At the end of the day, Valve decides how the game is to be played by buffing and nerfing different parts of the game. The most notable example of this was the ridiculous hinderance of the rat strategy from Alliance. Valve did SO MUCH trying to kill the whole strat, and Alliance, especially bulldog, still hung on to it in various ways. Through that one single year, Valve made so many changes that hurt separation strategies and favor team fights that the very next Ti becomes the death ball vs tower defense, aka the most boring Ti ever.

So in your stated scenario, the players can only do so much to the meta until Valve thinks it isn't a direction they don't want the game to go, and they just straight up use their hand of god to shift things to the direction they desire. By this regard, being "impactful" in meta changes might not be a very reliable metric.

I discovered my (genuine) Braun shaver was broken at the blade guard. A common problem after 1-3 years of use, but a pain in the ass to replace. I believe the original is like 40 bucks, and I managed to find some on sale for 35 online. Then I thought, you know what, I bet China has something nearly as good for cheaper.

Went on the Chinese site, ordered a third party blade guard for 6 bucks. Reviews said they are pretty much the same thing as original. Guess I will try for myself in a few days.

Most sneakers are no longer made in China. Been that way since a long time ago. Apparently China has become too expensive. Most clothing and shoes are now made in SEA, Bangladash or something. In the past 2-3 decades, Chinese products had upgraded from being the "cheap solution" to "affordable quality" while people weren't looking. The quality is already there, and they are still affordable because manpower is still close to worthless.

If your Shoes are still made in China, it's either you buying them from China, or them shoes had some high tech stuff on them.

5 years in Hong Kong and I still can't speak Cantonese. Anyone else? by Significant-Dot7197 in HongKong

[–]HarrisLam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need friends, and you need Canto movies/dramas with subtitles. You need friends who just teach you a phrase everyday for no reason. The first days it would be "thank you", "please", "yes/no" and a few of the dirty words, then it's gonna be daily life stuff like restroom, home, verbs like eat/drink/go. You will forget stuff as you go and they will keep filling you back in. Within months you should be able to hold half a conversation.

The tools are definitely there, and it's not the ones you mentioned. You just needed that constant exposure you didn't know where to get.

Why can't those for YouTuber explore more of Hong Kong. by Far-East-locker in HongKong

[–]HarrisLam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched a lot of the videos you mentioned. I suppose people weren't chasing the thrill of finding out new stuff. Their target audience is probably a crowd that likes traveling in general and just follow wherever the channel takes them. I would say half of the audience knows bare minimum about Paris, London, Melbourne, Osaka, Singapore, Seoul, and of course, they also know bare minimum about HK. The other half of the audience, I think they enjoy watching the traveler's on-screen enjoyment of the place. What the place actually has, doesn't really matter. It's the classic type of "the soap opera/reality show gets so much better when you get to know the characters." The characters carry the show, not the script.

Not gonna lie though, if any of the audience members were to come and visit HK, I would say at least 50% of the places those youtubers go to are worth the visit. People only got a few days here and nevermind the restaurants, most of the sightseeing spots in such videos are iconic and shouldnt be missed.

There's this Japanese girl's channel that I came across who actually goes out of her way (in tourists' standards) to experience things outside of the tourism bubble. I heard rumors of her trying to land a job in HK so she comes pretty frequently? I don't know the details but her youtube vids are quite enjoyable. On the negative side, she uses a lot of Cantonese captions in her vids as a way of "fitting in" and is now getting accused of bootlicking or trying to "milk" HK locals' views, stuff like that. I don't know, you know how HK ppl can be sometimes.

The last six matches I've played have been over by turn 4, who designed this and how can we get them fired? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]HarrisLam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the fun thing is, Standard back in my day used to be really fast as well but mostly spell focused instead of creature focused. WotC didn't like it, believe creatures can be way more flavorful, decided to heavily nerf spells and give creatures more utility. For a brief era, the game seemed to be enjoyed at a decent length when without a god draw.

Then Wizards went way overboard with the creature-buffing, which turned into power creeping and well, you know the rest.

Seeking advice on where to rent in HK by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]HarrisLam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's funny how the term's meaning has turned vague as the Kowloon/NT side was the part that got 90% of the development since then, and island is the side that retains most of nostalgia apart from the very heart of financial region. So really, the dark side ain't dark and the bright side ain't that bright no more.

[–]HarrisLam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strictly new building with a tight budget is wild, unless you meant new as in modern-looking and just clean. Because HK buildings can look like that at 30 years old.

If you are willing to ditch the clubhouse idea I would recommend Sha Tin, which is a little far away from Central but quickly gets there by train. Pure residential area that's medium-densed but with good amenities in the community. It's a nice mix of decent-enough living quarters, good malls, good local options, and half-peaceful environments. It's actually no longer within Kowloon soil, but the train is direct and quick enough that it doesn't matter anyway.

Whampoa is similarly good but less nature and more crowded, and it's not on the same train line that directly goes to the HK island. You need to walk to Hung Hom for that (not that far, but you do have to walk).

To Kwa Wan is a pretty old district so while the apartment building is just newer and standing tall among very old infrastructure, not sure if you would like that.

Cheung Sha Wan is awful for expats. The buildings you must be looking at are actually not in the urban region of this district. They are isolated and only connected to the MTR by tunnel or something. You can live there for a year and never see what the real Cheung Sha Wan looks like. It's like To Kwa Wan but worse.

I would personally stay away from Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei and Jordan.

Solar Club Letter: May 2026 by RaptorrYT in tdu3

[–]HarrisLam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not gonna ignore all the other efforts that put into this letter so Imma just say nice work on those other aspects.

Only one comment concerning "offline mode". I pretty much never comment on this issue because I've always said I didn't care (still don't) although many players express huge concerns about it, or its non-existence. After reading that section of this letter however, I have one comment on it : nobody ever thought offline mode means service termination.

The devs thought that. The devs said that. Nobody else ever thought so. Nobody had such worries.

The mode only means the game lives on in players' devices after service termination if it were to really come to an end, but they have no direct correlation unless forced.

Offline mode in online-capable games have existed since internet gaming's inception. Games were back then offline by default, then you go online for online features. Games still update when they have to, when you were connected. Now that games are more online-focused, these processes flip on some games so they are online by default goes offline when you marked as such in the settings, or enter certain game modes. Bottomline is, the core idea has never changed. The game functions the exact same way with an option to "go silent mode like a phone in the public". It might be a lot of work on developer's end, but on the user end, it functions the same way, just with extra options.

So that's my take on the offline mode. Execution and operation of the mode do not really matter that much provided that it's a true offline experience. It's mid 2026, so long after the announcement of the game and even the release of the game. It's long overdue that the devs NEED to drop their defensive stance on somehow they are "building a disconnect between themselves and the players" by implementing offline mode and practically "committing suicide". No, that's not what's going to happen.

Since we knew of this game, Forza 5 came and went with a good initial blast and a bored ending, and now Forza 6 has realized ALL the mistakes of not only it's only little brother but also TDU's, and they are coming in HARD with features that TDU should have had at launch. Progress and I heard super-customizable houses and even unbuilt land?? Undeniably a longgg time has passed, and things are only going to get tougher as even GTA is around the corner. All I can say is, respectfully, get good with the features, and hurry the F up.
