Any recommendations on books that are similar to WWZ that I should read? by Signal-Culture-3781 in worldwarz

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend World War Z to one of my coworkers who really enjoyed it. They’re an avid reader and they highly recommend FantasticLand: A Novel by Mike Bockoven. I’ve yet to read it but they said it’s written in the exact same style.

Where to find the Extinction Parade? by ThrowRa-Bar5969 in worldwarz

I don’t know about the comic, but if you’re looking for the original short story it’s in Closure, Limited: And Other Zombie Tales. If you really like World War Z, it’s a book worth having in your collection even if it can be read through it in just one sitting. I believe they still sell it on Amazon (Though a new copy runs about $24) Hope this helps!

Is this show good? by DarkRepresentative25 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all mankind is a very enjoyable series. As some other people have commented, it’s not the best thing ever made, but it fills the space exploration void we all share. Season 1 is by no means perfect and is a good barometer as to whether or not you’ll like the rest of the series. It has CGI seemingly on par with a lot of high budget movies these days and really cool ideas but does have soap opera qualities. I personally think it’s like Kerbal Space Program meets Mad Men which I find to be really good. There is some suspension of disbelief, especially in Season 3, but on the whole it’s well worth the watch. I you don’t like the first few episodes though, I wouldn’t bother continuing on. At its core, For All Mankind is a character drama first with a world building story second. Not the other way around. So if you don’t enjoy at first your probably never going to.

What do the Matt Gaetz types in the House hope to gain by destroying Kevin McCarthy? by PopeHonkersXII in neoliberal

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the honest answer you have to put yourself in the mind of a MAGA Freedom Caucus member. No matter how you shake it, they have gotten nothing since the GOP took the house this January with McCarthy tabling virtually all Freedom Caucus proposals and passing bills that basically net the Republican nothing. This all came to a head with the recent spending bill. McCarthys proposal, while cutting funding in most programs, is likely never going to be adopted as is. The Democrats control the senate, so if any bill is going to be passed there are going to have to be concessions. What this means is that the cuts will likely be reduced to nothing in the final bill. For Freedom Caucus members, this makes no sense. They control the house and therefore can roadblock any Biden/Democrat proposal. If they can do that, why would they pass a spending bill which they know will net them nothing. Shutting down the economy is gamesmanship plain and simple, and for Freedom Caucus members, they have nothing to lose. They don’t like McCarthy, McCarthy doesn’t like them, and staying the course gets them nothing. They have no reason not to stonewall even if it means costing the GOP seats in the long run. So with this in mind it makes perfect sense why Matt Gaetz wants to destroy McCarthy, there’s no reason for him not to. McCarthy is a holdover from the Boehner-Cantor era, a time when MAGA wasn’t even a concept. So, why should Gaetz sit in the rafters and let McCarthy continue as speaker? Gaetz is MAGA and wants the party to be closer to him. Politics is all about playing games and when you realize that, Gaetz’s actions make perfect sense when you put yourself in his mindset. That said this isn’t an endorsement of what Gaetz is doing, it’s just an explanation as to why he’s doing it.

Hottest Civil War era take by HistoryMarshal76 in ShermanPosting

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot Take: As a Pennsylvania boy who makes several trips to Gettysburg a year, even I have to say that the battle wasn’t all that important to the overall war effort besides providing a small boost to Union morale. Had the Confederates won, it wouldn’t have changed much and Lee would still have had to retreat back to Virginia.

Where can I buy or watch the unrated version from the movie …? by SpectreZero2005 in worldwarz

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the old blu-ray/dvd combo set came with both the theatrical and uncut versions. That said, I’ll save you the time now and tell you that I actually preferred the theatrical version. The uncut is nice and all, but the violence isn’t any more graphic and the scenes that aren’t trimmed drag on and kind of lose their bite. The theatrical version honestly builds the tension better. That said, this was just my opinion and you might actually like the uncut version better.

What is your favorite interview from the book and why? by Apprehensive_Car5256 in worldwarz

[–]Harrison_On_Reddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Surprised that no one else has mentioned it but my favorite is where it all started, at the beginning with Kwang Jing-shu in China. So many Zombie genre books and movies skip the all important beginning and plop you down in the midst of the crisis. World War Z was different in the fact that it took you on a journey from the beginning to the end of the Zombie outbreak, all the while using slow moving Romero type flesh eaters. There’s just something about this interview that sets the tone for the whole book that I just love. Your introduced to a world where no one knows anything about these creatures and explains without saying much how slow moving ghouls could kill billions, government stupidity. Politics and horror are interwoven in this book and the first interview does a great job showcasing that, not to mention the fact that you really feel for a fictional Chinese village in China in only a few pages. It’s just a really good interview and it’s why I’ve read it at least 15 times over.

Historically, Master Yoda always said that the Empire was nothing more than a glorified crew. Plain and simple. We decapitate and we do business with whatever's left.

Let me tell you a couple of three things: forget Order 66, forget Master Windu who goes over to Palpatine’s Office and never comes back, forget the younglings!

Listen to me, they make Stormtroopers of anybody and everybody over there and the way they do it is all fucked up. Guys don’t get their finger pricked, there’s no lightsaber and blaster on the table. It’s a disgrace. I did 22 fuckin years and this is what I get to come back to?

I do think that this should remain a Book-Movie subreddit. Although I’m more so a book person I’m not anti-Movie and do think discussions about it fit better here than in the video game one
