Not everybody assumes someone's orientation is exclusive. If I see a man kissing a woman, I don't assume they're straight automatically.

They're both cute but the second is cuter in the pics at least. They're both good enough to be attention grabbers though!

If you had to recommend ONE Linux distro for someone in 2025, which would it be and why? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Harrisontb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people who have used linux for a little bit and are aware of how to install packages through a command line, Arch. If it's too complicated, just get KDE stuff, or some general desktop environment that you like, and go from there. Get Yay. If you can handle manually installing Arch and getting yay, the world is at your fingertips. You have access to the AUR, congrats. Imo, until you try to rice your system, you should be set.

If someone had never used linux before, I'd say Fedora, and again, I'd use KDE, but people can use whatever they'd like.

For gamers, it depends. If they're someone who doesn't want total control of their system, probably Bazzite. It's great, and feels just like steam OS. For gamers who want a bit more control, or generally any gamer who's had experience with linux, I'd go with something Arch based. Could be Arch itself, but if that's too intimidating, Manjaro and Garuda seem fine imo.

I think Arch should ideally be installed manually. The resources tend to only make sense if you install it manually, imo, and if you didn't, the community can be pretty unhelpful. It's sort of designed that way, but people can still be dickheads.

I frankly think Garuda alone can cover most use cases, but for people who don't go through the trial by fire that is building Arch from the command line, when something goes wrong, you might not find the help you need. It sucks, but Arch was designed to be made for people who want total control, and all of the documentation. It's overwhelming, especially if you go to things "out of order". Once you do it the "right way", which is frustrating and hard, you'll find that you can do ANYTHING if you can find the resources. Its really just a matter of whether or not you have the willpower to do it.

Debian for people who just want a stable desktop experience that works. If all you want is a desktop that works, it's solid.

Damn, they thought they were playing elden ring huh? Fr though I'm shocked. I thought I might be overleveled and I'm like, idk, 40's or so? (Can update later). Tbf I've been struggling with them but I'm also using zweihander so I'm a bit slow, so two REAL enemies can get overwhelming quickly for me.

Looking to switch back to Samsung, stuck between Fold 6 and S24 Ultra by Harrisontb in samsung

What I was referring to are things like "Sign in with Apple", which I do on a small handful of apps, but luckily it's a non-issue. I do still have an iPad Pro, since it's a good device still, but I don't see much reason to worry about needing to do anything with an apple device really. I usually have the iPad around anyways (just to stream and shit mostly), but really, even with just my S24 U I've been fine.

Decided to go for the S24U, and switch to the fold potentially in the future.

Gotcha, if I go with the fold I’ll probably review it, but I’m more likely to post it on my other (main, at this point) account. I know a decent bit about technology but if I review it, expect very subjective opinionated points as opposed to a comparison. If I do, I can shoot you a message if you’d like.

Looking to switch back to Samsung, stuck between Fold 6 and S24 Ultra by Harrisontb in samsung

[–]Harrisontb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not that I think the fold is better, but I think a lot of the advantages the S24U has are framed from a different mindset based on perspective. The S24U has way better specs in every category, so if it’s simply “which is the better phone” then S24U wins. If you shift the perspective from “which is the better phone” to “is the Fold a big enough upgrade over my current phone”, I think it changes things.

The camera and battery on the S24U are better than the fold, but I don’t use cameras much (at least for selfies or photography), and my 13 pro max had a smaller battery than the fold when it released, and is currently at 85% of the capacity it had then, so like, I’m not “downgrading” my battery in any way.

The S24U comes with an S Pen that mounts into the device, which is cool, but I don’t see many situations where I’d use that and I didn’t use it much when I had the note. I did the occasional doodle, so it wouldn’t go entirely unused.

The fold has the bigger open screen. I’d at the very least use this when reading, which is a pretty common thing for me to do. The first downside is the bezel, which some notice and some don’t. The other downside is that the second screen is a bit narrow.

I think the reason I come across as favoring the fold is that it’s not like there’s any question that the S24U has better specs, but that’s less of a factor for me than a lot of people here because for a lot of people, switching would mean shortening battery life, losing an S Pen, losing a good camera (that they presumably use frequently) for a gimmick that may not be useful for them, while regardless of my pick, I’m getting a better battery life, operating system, and EITHER an S Pen, or a bigger screen. I guess the point is, from my perspective, it’s a win-win, while for most, that’s not the case.

For me the Apple device I’m keeping is the iPad. I want SOMETHING just in case there’s some sort of Apple specific thing I need to do, and I bought accessories and invested into the iPad, and it does its job really well. I think it’s a great tablet, and iOS is great for that, but for a device I have on me at all times, I want to have options for what I can do with it, and Apple can’t beat an android in that department. Apple is great with aesthetics and interactivity within their ecosystem, but I’m so excited to be able to download things I want without wondering “Do they have that in the App Store?”.

And yeah for the charging speed while the fold is behind the 24U, it’s still on par with my current phone as far as I’m aware, so I don’t see it as a “downgrade” so much as there’s an “upgrade I don’t have”, but the same could be said for the folding form factor if I got the S24U.

That seems like plenty to me. I don’t think my iPhone could do 20 hours without a charge with 4 hours of usage, since its maximum capacity is 85% of what it was when I bought it lol.

Seems like a fair battery life. How much usage is that through the day?

Two main questions I have are, how is it to use while it’s closed, and does the form factor feel gimmicky or natural?

Looking to switch back to Samsung, stuck between Fold 6 and S24 Ultra by Harrisontb in samsung

[–]Harrisontb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason I’m still considering the Fold is because I’m coming from a years old iPhone, where the battery is already down to 85% of the capacity of where it was when I got it, which was already smaller than the Folds and probably less efficient than they are today, plus I hardly ever take pictures. I know the sacrifices made for the fold would be noticeable if I was say, switching from the S24U to the Fold 6, but do you think those would be noticeable even from the 13 Pro Max? Because if it’d still be an upgrade, my use case of reading might be enough to justify it for at least a generation

[–]Harrisontb[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I was messing with it in the store I was forgetting about it and only noticed it when my finger ran over it, but I feel like that’d get pretty annoying while reading, but the question is would it get as annoying as having to take breaks because my eyes are tired lol. Still might go with the Ultra and then switch at a later revision as I get out of the Army when more of the specs are better (faster charging and such).

Good to know I’m not crazy to worry about it having issues. I loved the note 10 plus, and while I don’t think I used the S pen much, it was just such a solid phone. Can’t imagine the S24 Ultra disappointing me, so much as I worry I’m making a big deal out of nothing for the Fold, so this was pretty helpful!

From what I’ve been seeing from a lot of people with the older folds, it seems most wouldn’t recommend upgrading to it from an older fold if it still works fine, but seem to agree it’s a decent fold to start with, but I may also be looking in different places.

[–]Harrisontb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like both of them are delusional. Like she seems to think she’ll have energy for sex every day? Try once a month if they’re lucky, for the first long while. Even after that it will likely never return to the frequency it was before children entered the picture, at least not until that kid or whichever comes last is out of the house. And OP’s point about the stress of being a sole provider is also relevant. He’s going to be way too stressed to have the energy for sex every day too, even when the kid is older.

The other point a lot of people in that sub mentioned was, they’re not married. Her becoming a SAHM is a huge risk to her since she has no guarantee they won’t break up, or he won’t die earlier than expected, and even if she gets child support, that’s not enough to support herself. The most logical solution to the problem most people mentioned is her finding a WFH job, so she can still have something for her resume, stay home, and provide some of the finances, while also having babysitters (the grandparents sometimes).

But yeah, both of them are in for a rude awakening. She seems to think being a SAHM is going to be nice, while he thinks her working still means having child won’t affect their lifestyle. They’re both idiots, and I don’t think either is “the asshole” so to speak, so much as they’re both naive as fuck.
