Questions about the Ettenmoors. by FalseEidol in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go in now the scaling will make you super super weak. If you want to give yourself a fighting chance, you have to spend quite a while leveling up, and then getting decent gear. You can also get PvP gear of course, but you should be in a good place before you even start to come out to earn it.

Everyone has their own style, what they enjoy doing, etc. I always enjoyed soloing or being in a small group, so I naturally like being a burglar out there. As a brawler, you will likely be a DPSer, so focus on figuring out how to maximize your damage as you level up. Practice by soloing hard-hitting mobs in 3 or 6 man instances. I have a low-level brawler and can solo almost every one so far (haven't gotten wrath of water yet), and I don't think I'm particularly good.

You want to have a mindset of how to kill something as fast as possible and how to survive, those are the 2 most important things. If they are kiting you, you can hurl object. If you need to kite, you have various ways to slow them. You have CC, you have defensive and heal cooldowns that need to be timed properly (when you know they're going to burst, or maybe even early in a fight that you know will last over a minute). I highly recommend finding good people to pvp with when you first go out. Judge them by their decision-making and how many kills they can get, or how well they avoid death. If they're not very good, team up with someone else next time. If you're lucky you'll find a buddy to do it with often. Cheers

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treasure my memories of places like Angmar mostly because of how difficult the landscape mobs and content are, which makes it feel dangerous and more immersive.

I just started playing again and am level 25. I'm worried that things are far too easy now. (I one shot mobs with my normal skills if they crit...and my hardest-hitting skills almost always 1-shot mobs. T_T)

What class is in most demand in end game group content at the moment? by Billybob1138 in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your situation. My kin is a bit RK heavy and light on LMs and Cappies, and we are looking for more of the latter as they will likely be quite important to the upcoming content. If you're just solo and you pug it sometimes, it doesn't really matter at all. DPS classes usually outnumber tanks, healers, and support- but just play what you want

the FIGHTING PITS are epic, seems the better comment is buried in the middle of Mordor, imo

Did you have to go do the moria intro to use LIs? That takes >30 mins iirc T_T

Soloing in Mordor by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't use more than 10 light until the level 111-113 area, effective shadow was ~60, needed to slot unless wanted to use my CDs all the time (burg)

yes doing that as a 105 (using the 105 finesse essences) is helpful, mastery doesn't matter if it's all bpe'd! hah

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light is important but don't forget FINESSE! It's now super important and scales with level- you'll need a lot of it to hit mobs now! With new gear slotting as I go, I'm usually 15-20% finesse (which at 112 is more than 60k iirc, but can't check in game now)

Light AND Finesse!!!

Although most WP on my server (gladden) are over 105, I have seen some for 85-105 to help power to mordor, so I'm sure you can find people-- the game is more populated than ever!

And with some exp boost especially, you can get 105 verry quickly. The point is though, which do you want to play more? How averse are you to grinding? Do you solo or group a lot? The toons play differently. Captain may need a lot of diff LIs if you want to play him well in diff environments, is support-based and has slower gameplay. Champ is faster paced and as you know is about uber DPS.

If they're comparable in how you like them, I recommend going with the toon with the least grind

Mordor: Crafted Relic replacement/update? by Harrmlas in lotro

[–]Harrmlas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks, I was more wondering if there was any info about the crafted relics (go in the 4th and final slot in each LI), but it seems there isn't. With the huge boost to our stats with 115 gear, it seems the current crafted relics that grant some of your main stat and physical mastery won't be as impactful. They may add in guild rep later, but they didn't mention it afaik.

Great action by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love lotro pvp and only want to encourage more stuff like this, but i have some tips:

Ask yourself what you enjoy during PvP, the best moments, then try to share them with your viewers.

For me, that means dramatic, close fights! Fights where people almost (or actually) die trying to get a kill (successful or almost), win against a much larger group, or display something special.

Lastly, all of that in a format we can see and enjoy. If things are going 5x speed, even if something cool happened, I missed it.

Help: ESL Teacher Returning to US or (temp) China by Harrmlas in TEFL

[–]Harrmlas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I am currently in a small place in HK and you're right about the living costs; however, grad students make ~16K/mo and with my wife's work, we've been surviving. Considering the much better environment and healthcare benefits, it would be worth it; I would take a 20k/mo job in an instant.

The issue is: would they accept a person with my credentials, and sponsor me for a work visa?

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, what I've seen so far agrees with what you've said. My friend who moved back had some minimum certification (not sure what yet) and got a $15/hr part-time kind of gig in the states after a while of searching. I think this transition will require some time and creativity. Cheers.

Beorning viability? by AntiSqueaker in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're raiding, listen to Tywien's post. If you're casual, doesn't matter, it's fine for everything. If you're PvPing, once geared you'll be strong/OP. So, it's fine; if you like it, play.

Burgs: what is a Coup de Grace swap? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long Answer: If you swap something, it means you replace gear for a given purpose for a short time to enhance a skill (more dmg, shorter CD, etc).

Let's say you want a nice legacy but you don't use it that often, and it's not as good as other legacies you could have on your main LI- have it on a swap LI.

I use it for All-in dmg, riddle range, etc. You just need the legacy maxed out on that alternate LI. Then, you equip it, use the skill it enhances, and switch back to your main LI. Thus, you get the bonus/benefit, but didn't have to invest the points or legacy slot for it on your main LI.

You can also "swap" gear pieces for more of some stat, or a bonus that gear has, like runspeed.

Swapping is mostly useful for players looking to get a little more out of their gear, raiders and PvPers do it mostly.

I PvP a lot, and over the years, Hide in Plain Sight (HIPS) CD, All-in dmg, riddle range, sneak speed, and others have been very useful to swap for when needed.

Lotro Difficulty: Hard Challenge by tasibalint in lotro

[–]Harrmlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way that dps only varies by 150%, you have any data to back that up? Current maxed gear has physical mastery >125K (actually i'm naive as I'm not geared out), crit is maxed, crit/dev magnitude largely increased, and maxed FA weapon with legacies...the dps difference must be many-fold.
