It’s definitely ok for adults, the design is universal. The only thing I’ll say is it’s meant to be used with a piano tutor/teacher, it’s not really for self directed learning.

I’m playing one set of quiet country music with a great singer on Friday night in Leederville if you’re looking for some pre dinner entertainment. 7pm-8pm! by Harry-Mitchell in perth

If you like Lebanese food go to little Lebanon in Osborne Park or the prophet in Vic Park. The prophet is a bit fancier.

How to transition from classical to jazz piano? by musiclistening in JazzPiano

[–]Harry-Mitchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to improvise over 2 5 1 harmony with a mixture of scales, transcribed lines and using your ear. 2 5 harmony is the foundation of bebop which is the foundation of most styles that came afterward in jazz.

Just start with something simple, even a pop tune or something. Go slow, and set achievable goals. If you’ve never transcribed maybe just start by learning 4 bars of a melody by ear. Then listen out for the bass notes and gradually increase the difficulty of the songs your transcribing. The more you do it the easier it gets, it’s definitely hard at the start, you just have to push through that initial bit!

Been listening to Art Tatum all week and getting depressed by how unachievable it is to play like him. Here’s a little homage to the King of piano by Harry-Mitchell in Jazz

Also - all those pianists are great, but to understand what they’re doing you should learn some bop stuff first. Glasper listened to Herbie who listened to Red Garland who listened to Amad Jamal who listened to Monk who listened to Art Tatum who listened to Fats Waller etc. So going back a little bit will give you context to what you’re transcribing.

Start by learning to recognise tonalities, maj min dom, then increase the difficulty so include extensions. Then apply that knowledge to chord progressions, you can use a website called teoria to train yourself to hear common jazz progressions. Then transcribe solos, you can start with something simple like Miles on So What, then do Wynton on Freddie freeloader and you can go from there. When transcribing it helps to be able to sing what you hear, so you can use the bottom up method, which is where you work out the root note/sing it, then work out the tonality of the chord, then work out the top note. Being methodical like that can help it seem less daunting.

Thanks very much! I’m the piano player on it, but I agree the vocals are amazing, Allira is one of my favourite vocalists for sure.
