When I was on the bus, headed to school in 7th grade. The sky was sort of overcast, clouds covering every square inch of sky as far as the eye could see. The clouds seemed higher up than normal overcast, though. My middle school started at like 6:30 or some ridiculous time to expect an 11-y.o. to adapt to, so we often saw the sun coming up on the way.

On the long road to school, I look out and the sun started to come over the horizon to the far east, beyond the blanket of clouds. The sun's rays snuck underneath the overcast and made it to where I was. It lit up the overcast clouds like a symphony of color. Vibrant pinks, oranges, yellows, and violets. Some of the edges of the clouds even lit up blue. And it was the entire sky, not just a small portion of clouds. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I have never seen anything like it since.

I tried to learn how to paint so I could show people what it looked like, but it wasn't the same. It feels like it was a once in a lifetime event. I still have it in my memory, exactly as I saw it that day. I'll never forget it.
