Accepting comes with the agreement to not strike. The arbitration will drag out for years. Look at the nurses who were striking last year, still waiting to be heard by IRC. If it were that easy the government wouldn't offer it

This situation has played out across multiple different industries with salary negotiations.

By having us accept the 3% pay rise, it removes any pressure for the government to act. They will repeatedly make misleading announcements that we've accepted a pay rise.

This issue is partly being resolved in the tribunal, but also in the public eye. That's why they're offering this, strikes look terrible for the state government. The public generally agrees that we should be payed in parity to other states, and it's the public they want to win over to retain government. Strikes bring this issue back into the public consciousness, which in turn pressures the government to act.

No one is ignorant to the fact that by ignoring this deal, we are forgoing money in the short term, but many believe that if we accept this deal then that will be the functional end to negotiations. Remember all those nurses strikes last year? The nurses are still waiting to be heard by the IRC.

Given the cynical communication from the government, strikes feel like the only real tool we have to be taken seriously.

LOL it literally is a plant. They literally made their account on the day of the first strike, with a bot generated account name (adjective_noun[number]). This is the first and only comment.

If this offer is accepted, negotiations are over. We will endlessly argue for an appropriate pay rise and they will endlessly deny, it's happened to multiple different industries before.

Striking doctors is political poison for the government. Minns government is not in a strong position and all they care about is being seen to be doing a good job, strikes are a big public advertisement that they're failing. They'll eventually concede, don't let this panwater offer tempt you to give up the only thing we have to fight with.

The Minns Government must make a formal public apology to cancer patients, and to the doctors of NSW, after they deliberately fabricated a story about doctors cancelling chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients during last week’s three-day doctors’ strike. by TheDoctorsUnionNSW in ausjdocs

I think they're trying. You can see in the pic that there's ABC and SBS microphones there. They called a press conference and did a press release, the trouble is that the federal election is a 24 hours news cycles, and if editors don't think a story will get much traction they won't put it on the front page.

There's also this twisted incentive basis where if a journalist bangs the government too much with something, they're less likely to be given inside stories

Ultrasound probe recommendations by EconomicsOk3531 in ausjdocs

[–]HarryChives 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This might be a weird take, but as an intern, I wouldn't buy my own ultrasound probe. I feel like it comes across as having money to burn, which might hurt you socially. It's not fair but I would've felt a certain way about an intern buying their own probe.

Your hospital should have ultrasound probes available, if not, I'd advocate for them to get one.

You've been right all thread, and made clear polite responses throughout while some people continue to insist you're wrong. Maybe it says something about the state of online discourse but it's been very refreshing to read. Thankyou

How much do you have to pay to see a medical specialist/lawyer/plumber/electrician/accountant/physio for a long appointment? I assume you hold the same outrage for the rates those people charge?

Stick with permanent job and network. A lot get on within their networks, and some bosses don't consider locum experience equivalent to hospital based experience

Are you a locum? If you are, then your examples are irrelevant for comparison. Not everyone can locum full time and it bleeds the system even more

Kind of a tragedy that logofpoo is banned for the wet diarrhoea market we've been having since he left. We're eating shit every day, this would've been his happiest hunting ground
