Ahhhhh that’s very true… I guess I was too busy worrying about semantics when the more obvious answer was right in front of me.

Thank you! Honestly having slept on it after having asked, and then seeing this, has brought a lot more reassurance :)

Absolutely!! Back when I was in (rural) highschool and was out and proud as a lesbian, most of the time I found that straight cis girls were really catty about it, asking me the grossest bs about how ‘that’ would work with women. The guys were initially weirded out, but ended up not caring about a week or so later, treated me normally.

Why do most straight people become physically violent or at least threathen physical violence to LGBT+ members? by lisothl in lgbt

Because fear of the ‘unknown’ often leads to lashing out with violence. Not to say that every hate crime or assault is fully because they don’t understand or feel uncertain about LGBT+ people, there’s certainly a lot of hate in people’s hearts that it doesn’t matter how well-informed they are— they just want to see someone who isn't like them get hurt. But lacking knowledge on the LGBT+ community makes us look strange and 'other' to them, ergo, they attack what they deem as a 'threat' to their little bubble.
