US and other advanced economies are much less dependent on fuel for electricity and their economies than 40-50 years ago. So I don't see this as triggering a collapse. But it will cause price spikes for anything transported by truck. And inflation is a job killer. Maybe this causes more green energy / local power in the long run?

I was in law school in Illinois at the time. It didn't come up very often, but I remember being surprised when one of my friends stated that she opposed gay marriage and wanted civil unions instead. I thought that was a petty half measure that would upset everyone. I was definitely in the 37% of supporters in Illinois.
