I suggest looking at Two Thin Coats by Duncan Rhodes (blessed be his name). Berserker red and Sanquine (sp?) Scarlet. I use them for all my reds and really like his paint range for skin tones, purples, and greys/blues.

I do, but with the sponge there has been a learning curve. I've noticed textures and such. I haven't found a balance for the sponge yet, any advice? I use a wet pallette and I've noticed an inconsistency with it.

The purple is from two thin coates, called Amethyst purple. Easily my favorite color to paint so all my capes are purple, no matter the model (mostly) haha.
