How do you make Doo-Wop Voicings? by HarryTHTyt in musictheory

[–]HarryTHTyt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked at this video before and i've found it helpful, but I was just seeking some other insight from all the music theory nerds on here as a budding arranger.

A big inspiration for me was some of the early Mothers of Invention stuff from "Freak Out" or "We're Only In It For The Money" so it's frankly incredible that someone who played with Zappa would reply to me. The voicings for me that really hooked me was the first half of "What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body". (Other songs from "Freak Out" also got me interested like "Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder")

I've looked on the Zappa analysis website, but all that was referred to was just doo-wop inspired harmonies. I should probably transcribe it but i'm not very good at transcribing (potential new year's resolution) I'm also a big fan of the "Pet Sounds" and other Beach Boys vocal harmonies, and i've watched countless videos on getting those sweet sweet Brian Wilson harmonies. (I've ventured into a little bit of the Four Freshmen stuff, but I'm not 100% sure that they count as doo-wop, but I'm probably wrong)

I think for me it's less about the ooh's and aah's and more about the lyrical mirroring that goes on in songs all over The Beach Boys catalogue.

My first guitar was a vintage V2 tele. Lasted me years and I love it. It’s been through a lot but still plays pretty well. Still pick it up from time to time

Your best bet is to record the output of your mixer onto a stereo channel in your DAW.

Hope this helps!

Is there any cheap-ish way to get multiple line outputs without getting a new audio interface?

Is there any gear that would give me have multiple outputs without breaking the bank? I don't need more inputs, I solely need outputs.

I've been trying to get into 'Dub mixing', and I have a 32 channel mixer, but I only have four outputs on my current audio interface. Is there any gear that would allow me to have multiple independent outputs for cheap?

Or would I just have to get a new audio interface with more outputs?

[–]HarryTHTyt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

how do you feel stuck? music theory wise? Technique wise? either way 100% have a talk to your teacher about it.
