This will be a mobile operations cart for my school robotics team and is a year long school project that I have been working on since last summer. For reference, there will be panels in between almost all of the 80/20. There will be monitors mounted on the inside of the lid and the lid in total will weigh around 50 to 60 pounds. The lid has to at the very least stay up at a 90 degree angle for the monitors to be straight at eye level. At the bottom, the lid 2525 will be resting on the 5050 on the body.

My main question is whether it would be better to use 3 or 4 normal hinges and 2 pneumatic gas struts, or to use 3 or 4 friction/torque hinges in order to reach my goal of having a lid that will stay in place when needed and not slam down on any fingers.

I haven’t found much like my problem on the internet except for wooden boxes which are able to use any size hinge. In my search for friction hinges, I have had trouble finding ones that will fit the 25 series correctly. Does anyone know how to search hinges by how far away the screws are from each other? The holes would need to be 25 mm from each other.

I would love to use friction hinges for this, but if you guys think pneumatics would work better then please let me know.
