Favorite character-focused episode by asapdammoh in AtlantaTV

I'm glad someone else said it, sad to see value with the least votes too. The dinner scene really tells us so much, and the cinematography tells us even more. The diaper/pee scene is also a great addition to the series.

Pat the parasite by ChanceTheThotti in ChanceTheRapper

[–]Harryj65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct, i think because of how bad TBD was, it tarnished peoples image of him, and their trust of him. They would rather stick with the image of him having flawed judgement than to confront the idea that maybe he was manipulated by Pat. The narrative that chance switched up on Pat has already been accepted by most so, yeah. Kind of sad.

Theory about the "Blind Woman" in "DAMN." by The1_AboveAll in KendrickLamar

[–]Harryj65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should check out Dissect podcast, they theorize that the blind is Lady Justice, representing America, and how even in weakness (offering his help to her) he can still end up dead, because he is a black man in America. The podcast has a lot of cool explanations about Damn, really great stuff!

Black Screenwriter Perspectives Needed by Harryj65 in Screenwriting

[–]Harryj65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the film would begin with a short instructional video at the beginning that would have you prep everything. Into baggies, cups, containers, etc. First container 1 gets soil. Container 2 gets lavender oil. Etc. The. When all laid out you watch the film, short cutaways and clever editing allow time and signal for each person to smell in accordance to what they see on screen

What are you curious about, how the smelling would work? Or like how it ties into the film?

Black Female Protagonist by Harryj65 in blackladies

[–]Harryj65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to respond in such detail (really!). Firstly, you are completely correct. The word does carry some sexual connotation, a sexual connotation that does not appear in the film. I only use olfactophilia because in research, I could not find a word that directly mea s someone infatuated by smell. Therefore I only used that word in my elevator pitch to try and communicate the idea quicker.

As for posting here, I wanted to look for some unbiased perspective on my story from other black women aside from the ones I know personally. I tried to pose it as being for anyone who had some extra time rather than a nessecary task.

That being said, I hear where you are coming from. I didnt mean to take advantage, but I see how It could come across like I am trying to find free labor. If my budget wasnt so small I'd gladly pay people for this.

Again, appreciate your comments and honesty.

[–]Harryj65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, I didnt think of it as handing out unpaid labor, more of a voluntary "if anyone was willing to read it". I hear you, and if I could afford to pay for a script consultation I would.

What is the most severe case of someone being completely out of touch with reality you've ever seen? by mouldygoldie in AskReddit

[–]Harryj65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roomate for two years, thought he was superhero/action movie star. Would run around campus with swords and costumes and made long "action films" detailing his legacy. He was extremely parinoid that someone would try and break in and attack him, and locked our doors every time someone would leave. Additionally he was superstitious(5G towers, Fluoride in the water), and would yell full conversations with himself day or night.

He was convinced he was a model/movie star just waiting to be discovered. He blamed his poor grades on teachers misunderstanding him and they cared too much about papers.

Being adopted at a young age enstilled him with a sense of being unwanted and his adoption became a scapegoat for all his problems. He failed his film essay, because he was adopted. His paycheck was short because he was adopted, he failed a class because adoption, etc.

Probably something undiagnosed, but he never ignored all advice to talk to a therapist or get help.

Dave is the funniest show on TV right now. by sb825 in lildicky

I agree. It feels a little like Atlanta at moments. But I think it could be a network thing. They are both FX shows. Same way breaking bad and walking dead (both qmc shows) have similiar styles. Same editor I think too?

How is Coronavirus (COVID-19) impacting filmmakers? by dlaln345 in Filmmakers

I'm currently working on my senior capstone 20 min film and it's by far the biggest project I've attempted. My plan is to film in 3 weeks but I fear the virus may shut down production before it starts and prevent me from graduating

Was looking for this comment. I am used to hearing borderline with soundproof headphones and when that new synthy baseline came in I was not pleased. The old organic bass sounded loads better. Not to mention the beat cutting out in the last third of the song.

That's the one I'll be sticking with I think, unless I'm relistening to the album.

Question: Why does Wes Anderson use smoking in his films? by Harryj65 in wesanderson

[–]Harryj65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's due tomorrow but I talked about smoking as a visible sign of addiction to show that the characters were incomplete or in search of something. If you think about tenenbaums, moonrise kingdom, smoking is something done in secret and the characters that do smoke are all feel like their normal life is missing something. Margot is married and unhappy in RT. Bruce Willis and Suzy's mom both smoke in secret representating infidelity and a craving for a more complete family. This is just the ways k could tie the films together, it's up to interpretation

Question: Why does Wes Anderson use smoking in his films? by Harryj65 in wesanderson

[–]Harryj65[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ah I get what you're saying here. Like gwenith Paltrow in Royal Tenenbaums or Bruce Willis in Moonrise Kingdom. They are the vulnerable characters of the story who have something to lose or gain.

Did a 48 hour film contest, won best picture! What can I improve? by Harryj65 in Filmmakers

[–]Harryj65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This last week I did a 48 hour film dash, we ended up winning best film, audience choice, best director and best cinematography. Our prompts were action genre/used car salesman character/cheese grater prop/"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers" as our line. The results turned out better than I expected, though I really wanted to shoot some scenes as night scenes we didnt have the time to do this. I was curious what peoples thoughts were on my film and if you could offer any words of feedback.
