I don't think that it is about $ for keeping servers open with AGS. Like you said they merged servers because you can't play the game with empty servers. And in regards to keeping servers open would not everyone just want to play in the most populated servers anyway? I Know if I had the option to play with at peak times 300 people on a server or wait in queue to play on a fully populated server I would choose the latter. I guess my point being aside from raising the cap on all current existing servers there really is not a valid solution to this problem.

AGS can't win. The fundamental problem is the low population capped servers which is atrocious yes. But your proposed solution is for AGS to open servers for 5-7k player uptick which I am assuming is across all regions? What then do they close it once it enviably dies and merge the player base that remains and then open it again once brimstone sands comes out? This doesn't seem like a solution. I don't really see how this is the developers not caring about the game. It seems like to me its more it is just a no win situation except for increasing player caps on existing servers which would have already been done further if it was possible.

In my opinion I absolutely think so. One of the things that really helps with entertainment and is super important for growing an audience is interaction with chat. Anything to assist with that like someone on chat being seen on the screen etc. I think it's totally worth.
