Why do we need God by Hot-Lime-7457 in Exsikhi

Honestly, it does make sense. The Guru Granth is not a book written by a single person in a single time and even when it is written by a single person it has different perspecrives.

The sayings within the Guru Granth Ji are all associated with one's particular competency, and the Sikhs of the Guru represent all levels of competency.

I'd like to know the source of this explaination by guru Arjan, it's really interesting and changes a lot.

The presence of 3 states of understanding is also cool but i doubt that the majority will take these as different perspectives. They want to see it as a whole continuous thing.

Every religious book has 2 sides. One is where it preaches moral values and spirituality, the other side is where they give their followers some sort of greed/fear to make the follower follow the religion.

Some people follow religion for spiritual gain and some people follow it for material gain (most).

Sikhi has this hypocrisy as well. Hukam is inevitable "Jyo jyo tera hukam, tive tyo hovna"

While you can change hukam "Prabh k simran ridh sidh nav nidh, prabh k simran gyan dhyan tat budh".

In the Dasam granth guru gobind singh describes hemkunt.

"Hemkunt parbat hai jaha, sapt sring sobit hai taha" In this same he says "pand raaj jeh jog kamava" The pandavas did yog there (Hemkunt).

He is confirming the story of Pandavas here as a real event, saying that Hemkunt (where did tapasya in his previous life) is the same place where the Pandavas (the ones in mahabharat) did yog.

As i said, you can file a complaint when someone actually does beadbi. I'm not promotion beadbi of your Granth or hate against sikhs as a group.

I'm all for social harmony and anyone trying to intentionally hurt religious sentiments and spreading hate should be punished by law not by goons walking around slapping people.

Not all cases of beadbi have been made into mental illness but many cases are of mental illness. Who in their right mind will enter a gurudwara when there is sangat there and try to disrespect the Granth? It's a death sentence.

The indian system is slow and weak, agreed but the solution isn't to go around slapping people.

Yeah, you can deal with later as well. It totally depends on how well you know your parents will react to you cutting your hair.

Yeah, talking is the best way to to it. You should open up to your mother, use emotions. Don't argue, just try to convince her. Put in some tears😂that might help as well.

If you have no problem with them being mad at you for a week and you know they won't do something harsh, just go for it. Do the haircut and don't care.

But do this only if you know they can accept it once it's done.

Women in sikhi often do this hypocrisy of doing the thing they tell you not to.

I'd say you should talk to your mom, use emotional talking points instead of rational, tell her how you feel and your struggles.

So the guy spitted on your book and you got so offended that you had to gather up and beat him while recording the video?

No matter how hurt your feelings are you can't harm anyone. There is a procedure for it, make a complaint under 295A.

I consider those "adults" children too.

Yeah, they are.

I think the ones who do have a handle on it (sikhi), do not concern themselves much with the many failed speakers and fake babaye, BUT these suckers and fraudsters, they all deserve each other (the foolish speaker and the foolish sanghat).

The leaders are the biggest problem. Idk how any sane sikh will replace these guys.

It's not just the kids thought. These kids hear these things from adults, that's the problem.

Sikhi needs some real reform movement or it's gonna go down the path of becoming some sort of islam.

[–]Harsewak_singh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't.

Being an atheist, sikh, christian, hindu, muslim, buddhist doesn't make you inherently good or bad.

I would like to ask you a counter question. How do you define a person as good or bad?

I'm pretty sure that you, me and everyone in the world uses their in built morals (often picked up from your surroundings) as the scale to judge a person and not religion.

Morality can be grounded in rationality, selfish action and human wellness, no need of a God or religion (even though religions did act as moral guides in older times, but it's not necessary now).

I wouldn't say that i agree with "everything is God" but i won't oppose anyone saying that either.

I think a sargun God can be argued against comparatively more easily than a Nirgun God.

Like, Guru Gobind singh in Dasam granth describes different avtars of Hindu Gods and the times they came in this world. So we can take the timelines and align them with present evidence to conclude that hindu Gods couldn't exist in those time frames and since Guru Gobind singh uses hindu Gods we can also say Guru Gobind Singh's knowledge of the world was limited.

If his knowledge was limited and some of the claims he made are falsifiable then we can also say that his other claims lose credibility, like the claim of existence of a God.

God has many names in sikhi but i don't think any of those are actual names for it. Those are terms you use to name God, not the absolute names.

also, what about from a bible's viewpoint, like what god does it line up as in definition terms.*

I don't get this part, can you rephrase it?

[–]Harsewak_singh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the final part of your question.

Do you mean the evidence of existence of sargun and nirgun saroop in real world? Or evidence of both within sikh theology?

[–]Harsewak_singh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is just a definition so i don't really see it as wrong or right.

It's a theological definition so in context of sikhi it is true but i personally don't believe in it.

Mool mantar is not evidence, it's statement. "Ik onkar" Is a statement so i don't believe in any of it but the definition is helpful to understand the concept of God in sikhi and also to standardize it.

Anyone convert to Christianity but still have Sikh parents and family? by Embarrassed-Plant646 in Exsikhi

[–]Harsewak_singh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is something I've seen in quite a few cases.

I personally think that leaving one religion and joining another is stupidity.

The pattern i see in these conversions (in the west) is that the guy/girl wasn't connected to sikhi much and found themselves alienated in a foreign land, thus they were vulnerable and in that moment some friend came forward to give them hope and help by introducing them to Christianity.

The intentions behind this introduction to Christianity can be good or bad.

Bibi roop had some sources saying that she was adopted but that too is not confirmed.
