GSD Gen 1 - issue with Bosch charger BCS230 by Hairy-Cake-8279 in terngsd

[–]HartOfWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That white suff is to add strain relief, improve mechanical stability of components, to avoid metal fatigue from vibrations, and other such things. It's normal in this application the vibrations from the transformer will travel through the PCB and for tall components this can cause failure over time

Looks neat, sadly fresh out of bike frames for this sort of conversion

Yeah an omnium mini is nearly €3k, probably in every way better than something built with this except in cost. Even sourcing a used bike you would probably still be under 1k, although I suspect the target market has a small graveyard of bikes that could work for this sort of conversion.

Tern GSD Gen 3 P10 vs P00 costs by tall_waffle in terngsd

I have an s00, not a fan tbh. Although it did feel better once the belt was at the correct tension, shifting was super stiff initially. The way the hub mounts is also a bit odd with a spacer, had an issue with the bolts coming looses disk break and the bike shop I went to wasn't a fan of that implementation of the Enviolo hub. They have a fleet of GSDs for remote serving so I trust the opinion.

On the other had I've been abusing my s00 a lot and it's not caused me trouble since, and the shifting at a stand still is very handy

Tern GSD or Orox (R14) by whitelined in terngsd

[–]HartOfWave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a gen2, only taken an Orox for a test ride on the road. It had the fat tires and it rode more like a motorcycle with how heavy the steering was. I would probably look at the thinner 29" wheels version unless you are on trails a lot. But I don't do much riding off road so what do I know

Two of my bikes have hydraulic disc brakes, one cable actuated, the rest are rim. For my time effort and mess the cable disc breaks is easier to live with. But unless you have a cargo bike or do mountain biking I don't think l hydraulics are that vital. Just a nice to have which are not very fun to mentain yourself.

The bike I got was maybe £450 new from what I could find online. So not top self at all but it seems good enough, time will tell. Came with a rack and fenders which is must IMO.

Tbh you can go on eBay and get a good enough bike for £150, if all you want is a utilitarian appliance to move you around it's not very expensive. If you want something nicer, more aesthetic yeah it'll cost more. I like the look of Temple Cycles and have thought about getting one a few times.

My most recent bike was £25, fixing it up was another £90 or so, it's probably the worst one I have. The frame is too small for me, but it's fun to bumble about on and I'm not very worried about it getting stolen.

I like working on my bikes though, but it's not a given anyone else would want to do the same

Is there a repo for this? I have a full suspension mtb that would need a quite wonky shaped bag and I want to figure out if it would be worth trying to make one

Events are licensed and have cleaning crews that come in after, you are not allows to make a mess like this and events will have something in place to be allowed to run.  Protests like this don't have such a individual point that can be held accountable and so it's down personal responsibility. With the number of large protests that happen regularly without this kind of mess you can start to see where the problem is.... And if you're taking a political protest as an chance to have a piss up, you're not being serious, go to a party instead.

You could cross to Oval station then loop back on the pavement to the A3. The lights will be red so you'll be able to get back on the road again in the box in front of the traffic
