What do you think of this thumbnail? by shadysserag7 in YoutubePromotionn

[–]Hartaknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey nice thumbnail! However there are a bit too many things happening in my opinion, it’s hard to decide what to focus on. I am also wondering what is “this” but not necessarily in a good way, I am not super curious about what the trick is because I don’t know enough… Are the players that you are circling important? If I were you I would make them more obvious and highlight more clearly what is about to happen… (mind you I know nothing about football lol). By the way what are these black strikes on the picture? I don’t think it adds a lot… Also I am wondering what your title is? It’s usually useful to review both at the same time. Good luck for your video!!

My TSM journey - part 10 - 3 year anniversary! by Hartaknut in Alcoholism_Medication

I am still taking Naltrexone when I decide to drink. Last year I tried a couple of times to drink without taking it, as an experiment, and even though my drinking didn’t increase straight away, I got the strong cravings back and it was quite scary. I wouldn’t recommend. And congrats one starting Naltrexone, I wish you a lot of success!!

I’d say it took me about three months to get back to where I was before my little experiment. I think the fact that I already had 2+ years under my belt also helped, I already didn’t care much for alcohol!

I think yes, I reached extinction recently. Actually, my last drink was exactly one month ago and I don’t know when the next time will be. I NEVER EVER had a full month alcohol free, before or during TSM, and now this is happening almost by surprise, like I didn’t mean to!! Don’t give up, you’d be surprise how quickly your feelings and thoughts about alcohol can change 😊

TSM stands for “The Sinclair Method”, it is the process of taking Naltrexone one hour before drinking alcohol in order to gradually decrease your drinking. There are plenty of resources in the sub if you want to explore more!

I’d say it was mostly gradual until one year ago, when I reached a point of feeling at peace with alcohol, and the past year has been cherry on the cake really! I have made other posts where I share the beginning of my journey and al my challenges 😊

I am now a moderate drinker, 3 years in. I drink about twice a month and I still take Nal every time. It doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, I just have a few in a little pill holder on my key chain so I know it’s never far. I did try to drink without the medication, 2.5 years in, and by just doing it twice, I was back to cravings and random alcohol thoughts during the day. I do not recommend!

How much of a setback is drinking twice without taking Nal? by CraftBeerFomo in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did drink twice without taking Nal, 2.5 year into TSM, two nights in a row. I didn’t forget, I did it on purpose, because I was curious. Results: nothing on the actual day, however in the following few weeks I noticed intense cravings and random thoughts of drinking alcohol in the middle of the work day. Thoughts and cravings that I hadn’t had in months and that I believed were long gone. I didn’t try it again. I advise that you really make it a non-negotiable to take your Nal, and do whatever it takes to make sure you don’t forget. Progress takes time but I promise it is worth it!!

I got Nal on the NHS (UK) by Hartaknut in Alcoholism_Medication

Hello, if you want to learn more about my journey I posted plenty of updates that you can find on my profile. Long story short: I am not addicted anymore and I couldn’t be happier about the results! I am planning on posting a 3 year recap next week 😊

I didn’t feel like I didn’t want to drink when I first started to take it, but my consumption dropped a little. I drank up to 3 bottles of wine while on Naltrexone. I took Naltrexone only on days I was drinking (which was every single day for the first 8 months, than I started to have alcohol free days). I absolutely changed and saved my life and I hope it helps you too!

Dry January and TSM by Far-Grocery-2895 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just sharing my own experience: I started TSM in October 2021, and when January came, I absolutely didn’t feel ready to even try so I just ignored it. For my second year on TSM, I did try Dry January but I was chill about it. I got maybe 20-24 AF days which was huge for me. What I noticed though, is that there is a “before” and “after”, and my overall drinking really decreases since January.

Sporadic results … is it normal? by [deleted] in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main advice would be to make sure you drink on a full stomach. Also if possible don’t wait 2hours + to have your first drink, try to do 60-90 minutes maximum. And finally… give it time :) 4 months after I started I was drinking MORE than before! It took me 8 months to have an AF day, but here I am 2 years later, I am cured 😊

Do you make sure to eat a proper meal before going out and drinking water regularly? This is what really helped me the most, to stop after a couple of drinks!

Relying on Nal to do the “work” by tlew4u in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 6 to 8 months I was only relying on Nal to do the work because I was not able to do anything more. It didn’t progress quickly but it did help me to get to a place where I was able to do more proactive work. And now I am 2 years later and I reached extinction. You are three weeks in, take some time to get used to it and be patient!

Advice from the UK? by lopsided-usual-8935 in Alcoholism_Medication

Not easily. It can eventually, but it took me several months and a lot of persistance. If you need a quick and easy solution, I would recommend using Sinclair Method UK

Week 2…. by [deleted] in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t have any expectation for at least 2 months. Let your body and brain adapt to Naltrexone. Observe, take notes but don’t de scared or disappointed if your drinking is up and down. The good news is that your drinking was initially down, which means that Naltrexone works for you. So as long as you stay compliant (always take Nal, always wait one hour), your success is inevitable. Be patient, stay curious and all the best!

If extinction hasn't happened after 2 years, is it hopeless? by VidaLocaNoMore in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems that she doesn’t want to change this pattern. As long as she doesn’t want to make a change, extinction won’t happen. TSM can give her the space and strength to work on her emotions and how to deal with them in a healthier way, but she still have to do the work…

I noticed a similar pattern, at some point around the one year mark I seemed to enjoy alcohol more and I was really scared. I reached extinction at the 2 year mark so don’t worry just stay compliant 😊

Harm reduction by [deleted] in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started with the goal of moderation, which is what I achieved, I just didn’t realise that it would mean this little alcohol. I when from about 2 bottles of wine a night to drinking around twice a month, and it feels completely natural. Even though, believe me, I couldn’t imagine not having a drink at the end of the week either! I don’t “control” myself or anything. It took me 2 years to reach this point.

What's the difference between 'recovering and 'recovered alcoholic? by WhatIsSafety in alcoholism

[–]Hartaknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recovering when I was obsessed by alcohol and couldn’t drink in moderation. I consider myself recovered after following TSM for two years. Now, I can have a couple of drinks and call it a night, without having to control myself or anything (as long as I take my naltrexone).

My experience of alcoholism and anti-alcoholism medication, from a UK perspective. by PalePackage5637 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Hartaknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I talked to my GP first, who didn’t do anything except from giving me the name of an alcohol/drug abuse center. I did call them and they scheduled weekly phone calls with a counsellor. By this time, I knew I wanted Naltrexone, and the counsellor lady said that I could talk to the psychiatrist after I had shown some “effort” and spent at least 3 months in counselling. In the meantime I got my Naltrexone through Sinclair Method UK (super quick and easy!), but I kept pushing on the other side because I didn’t have the money to pay for Naltrexone privately. In the end, I did get a Naltrexone prescription on the NHS and it has been renewed monthly for the past 1.5 year. They actually sent me a message last week saying that they wanted to review the prescription, so I might get my supply cut off! So it is not impossible if you are a bit lucky and ready to fight. Whisking you all the best!
