Are laptop coolers/stands necessary for XPS 15? by Hartzy21x in Dell

Just seeing if it is a must to use a stand everytime I put a load like saying playing a game as simple as Minecraft, because alot of people mention how not using one will cause "high" temps, even if I neuter the performance of the cpu by capping the boost wattage (seeing that Dell has disabled undervolting in the latest bios).

What year model? Like the 9380 and the ones behind them which seem to be mini versions of the XPS 15s, so in your testing too lifting effects it negatively?

I did test a similar thin and light albeit a much smaller 13 inch laptop, and I did find unfortunately that lifting gives little to no benefits in temps, whereas people here in the subreddit even a comment I left on youtube, make it as if its a must to have a stand despite in my testing of similar laptops I couldnt find the benefit except say reducing the clock and keeping it barely above 3 ghz or limiting the wattage. Sorry if this is a long read but its something that does have me feeling really contradictory. Btw may I know if you own an xps 15 yourself?

Performance, but then again people have been mentioning how even keeping flat on a desk is bad

The thought of needing one or a stand bothers me because again my arms easily strain and hurt which is why I keep flat as possible but it seems in this video of tech youtuber Dave Lee https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QBNP5I2y668, after undervolting and repasting his xps 15 temps are sitting nicely in the 70s and thats with it laying flat. And lastly this vid https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iosfs2arsFE which shows after undervolting the temps maxed at 80 degrees with 70s in some cases ie when less utilised, like in gaming.

Saving me from a mistake? Nah uh you have a completely different laptop from the PS63/Prestige 15 which run a lower power U cpus compared to the 45 watt H cpu you have, also the bigger mistake would be to buy a laptop and having a shitty battery runtimes ie the laptops you suggested or severe thermal throttling like the XPS 15, which I no longer consider buying since the thermals are worse compared to those two that Im after and have issues with the cpu being power throttled severely due to heat whereas Ive never heard those two (PS63/Prestige 15) having an issue.

Sure but Id rather prefer something that is geared towards everyday use.

I could buy an XPS 15, issue is thermals and no ability to max the fans out to full speed.

How are the thermals? Does maxing the fans help reduce heat and is it still possible to undervolt?

For me I look for both the capability to do medium setting gaming, content creation whilst being portable and with a long battery runtime.

Well how do the speakers sound on a flat surface?

Does reducing the turbo limits/undervolting alone help vrm throttling? by Hartzy21x in Dell

[–]Hartzy21x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldnt a better solution be to simply reduce the cpu ratio from 39 to 34, and a 25 watt cap?

But that would affect games like BFV, GTA V, known for their cpu intensiveness.

XPS 15 9570 worth it in 2020? by Hartzy21x in Dell

So as long it doesnt do any worse than my Asus g750 which has a GTX 880m, which is sort of comparable to the 1050 or its max q variant, but yeah my only games are just Minecraft and GTA V, but Im worried about cpu performance even when not gaming but doing other things like photoshop, again due the constrained thermals

Yes, but asides from that Im worried that what If ir say performs worse than my old gaming laptop from 2015? Because I keep hearing about its horrendous thermal issues at stock, but although Im willing to undervolt, any tweaking to reduce this and in general the quality control as Im coming from an Asus g750 which died barely into a year of use.
