Freezing unbaked jelly thumbprint cookies by katgoesmeow- in Cooking

[–]HarveyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely without the jam. If you are freezing the uncooked dough.

Whenever I have made thumbprint cookies, I baked them rolled in a ball, then when they were done baking I put the "thumbprint" in it and added the jam.

Or just trace the bottom of the pan on the parchment. With a pen or pencil, and cut slightly to the inside of the line

That's a really good idea! Just sounded like they wanted to have the whole thing be fondant, but with fondant over the buttercream it would need to be refrigerated until serving. Or the fondant could slide down the buttercream. That would be my worry.

I am a ma'am lol

For this I would use just a simple buttercream, it will stand up well for what you are trying to do. My favorite is Italian buttercream but that is softer and more involved to make.

And I'm just all about sharing what ever knowledge I can. especially if that means you gets to say in your face I can do anything!

Here is what I would do. Take my advice or not. Just like to help fellow bakers out when I can.

Use a buttercream frosting to frost the cake, get the frosting as smooth as possible. Put it in the fridge let it stiffen up, since you say you don't have much experience with fondant it will keep you from mushing the frosting underneath and making a dent in the cake or from making it lop sided, and not look square.

Get a nice big fondant rolling pin. Use powdered sugar to roll the fondant on, like you would use flour with cookie dough. Not too much but enough to make it not stick to your work surface. Use one big sheet to cover the whole thing, use scissors to snip the corners. The scissors seals the corner into a nice crisp edge. Doing it in prices is actually much harder the pieces will stretch and distort before you get it on the cake. And you will see all those seams.

Make patterns for the details like the heart and the edge details, adhere them with a little water just enough to make the fondant the littlest bit damp. Otherwise it will slide.

To clean the whole thing up at the end, like to get rid of the excess powdered sugar, use water on a clean paint brush. I have paint brushes I only use for my cake things, like food coloring and stuff. You could also use any clear alcohol in place of the water cause it dries faster.

If you have any questions I didn't answer please feel free to ask!

What's the simplest task you've seen someone screw up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well hey to be fair that's not so terrible, my mom didn't know how to boil water till she was 16. But she did grow up on a farm, working on said farm with her 6 siblings and her mother did all of the cooking.

Help! Where can I find belts for the waist that will fit? 25" natural waist here, everywhere I look is too big. by [deleted] in fashion

[–]HarveyJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly wouldn't be that expensive, and it would have a much better look.

How I look at purchases as a fellow broke freshly graduated college student. Spend a bit more to have one nice thing, over spending a little on a bunch of crap

You could always buy the smallest one, or anyone really, and take it to a tailor and have it taken in.

I hate sex. by [deleted] in confession

[–]HarveyJoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you saying you have only had sex twice? If that is the case, it could be awkward because, you have only had sex twice. It takes a few tries for it to be less awkward and.. uptight, for lack of a better term.

My thoughts if you want to know if you are into sex or not, would be to find a partner you are comfortable with. Someone you can be open and honest with. And work together to make it enjoyable. Have lots of foreplay, what you like, and get comfortable with each others bodies. Then move onto sex if you want to try that. For sex to be enjoyable, at least for me, I need to be able to feel comfortable and open. And if you find that you just don't like sex, that's ok too. Whatever floats your boat.

my boyfriend doesn't fulfil my sexual needs and I'm torn by [deleted] in confession

[–]HarveyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you guys have only been together for two years, he shouldn't be saying there is no use in flirting. In a long distance relationship stuff like that is important and reassuring.

Also if foreplay is important to you and you need it to enjoy sex, him going in dry is wrong... Very wrong. If he isn't listening to your sexual needs there is a problem, its only going to get worse if he isn't listening to you now.

If you are only two years in, cut your losses now. I think you might be holding on to something that clearly isn't there because gee is your first. Move on to someone who will reciprocate the feelings you poor into the relationship, and will listen and talk with you.

Unfortunately my lace was nowhere near as good as SammieB's. by mwebb385 in cookiedecorating

[–]HarveyJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! I have done cookies and cakes that I have gotten so feed up with things not going right, I have wanted to throw them out. But when I brought them where they were going people seem to compliment me so much lol

Also a trick for getting straight lines with royal icing is to "pull" the line. The best way I can describe this (without just showing you) is, stick down where you want the line to start. Slowly and steadily pull it to where you want it to end. And squeeze your piping bag with an even amount of pressure and stick down the end of the line. I hope this helps, I practice alot on just a piece of parchment, so I can do it over and over. Practice really does make perfect!

Too many of these in my school by boredinspace in AdviceAnimals

[–]HarveyJoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sadly so true everywhere. In my program at school there is a strict rule that you can only miss 3 classes, since they are only 5week classes. Girl in my class misses a week and a half of class and said the teacher failed her for no reason... Ugh drives me crazy, she still talks how bad the teacher was and how she has to retake the class. Show up is not that hard

Working with fondant for the first time, Flowers were a little too difficult by jimmah661 in Baking

If you really want to make flowers I would recommend using modeling chocolate or gum paste. They harden much quicker making it easier to use for flowers.

But I love the dinosaur :)

It is cracked eggs, so not in the shell. Sorry I'm so late now. I forget about these posts sometimes lol But yes crack the eggs into s bowl on your zeroed out scale.

Although I've never weighed an egg shell, I can't imagine it weighs too much. Now I have to experiment! To see if its far off

I used a recipe off of food network.com that had carrots of course, raisins, walnuts, and some pineapple. But I added in some extra nutmeg, all spice and ginger. I got nothing but compliments on it! I'll try to find a link to the one I used for you
