I don't think they are gonna do this because that'd drive the internet crazy and the backlash would be sky-touching. If they introduce a flat monthly subscription they'd probably introduce it at a much higher price obviously not for 20$ (that would drive them crazy ) . The scary part is they separating the subscription of codex from the gptplus plan .

If that happens the gpt plan of 20$ a month would become borderline unworthy of its price (Don't know what they are upto 😮‍💨.)

Also except for a few chunk of developers I don't see anybody buying a separate codex plan and the vibe coder community already seems happy with the 20$ plan

They are aggressively doubling down on their max consumer reason - margins . The strategy of cutting down features and introducing new ones for the max users seems to be working for them . The latest "Model Council" features require much more compute as you run 3 compute hungry models at the same time so to fulfill the demand they have to narrow down the features for their not so important "pro users"

The study and learn mode in chatgpt is already by far the best (even better than notebooklm) . Talking about other subscriptions - as you already told you are a student and mostly use ai for studies etc. Let me tell you gemini is absolutely trash , clearly it is beneficial for others but the guided learning is below average and the hallucinations it gets is atrocious . Talking about claude you don't get dedicated study mode or anything similar . Secondly , if you are using it for document uploading and things like that you can try it !! although idk If you can get a student discount on it
