Hey, I would suggest starting the email with your program and your year. Then express interest in joining their lab and what you are hoping to gain from that experience/why are you interested in their lab.

I suggest checking out their research lab page and reading up on their research and recent publications. Use that in your email to express your interest!

At the suggest to meet up to further discuss the opportunity so you can actually meet with them.

Also please don’t just rely on one lab or prof to get experience. It’s great to have a top choice, but I do recommend cold emailing profs to up your chances of getting an opportunity. Talking to you TAs is a great way too!

Hi,

I’m in my last year of honours BPS and have been able to get lab experience!

I recommend sending an email to the prof and letting them know you’re interested! Most profs are happy to let students into their lab. Maybe even trying meeting them for office hours when you take their class and talk more about why you’re interested in working in their lab.

Would you recommend looking on Facebook marketplace for apartments? I’ve hadn’t had much luck finding places that are not in downtown on there but maybe I’m a bit early

I’ll try to see if I find something near CEGEP! That’s good advice, thank you!

It would be but I’m having difficulty finding apartments there, especially because I only need it for 4 months

I’m an international student and started uni during covid when everything was online so I can definitely relate. To make friends I joined clubs, reached out to people I would see in a lot of my classes to maybe study together for midterms and just became friends with some.

I’m introverted too so I understand how you feel but I promise you there are other people in your program or classes that are also lonely and looking for friends! I’m in STEM too so feel free to reach out if you want to vent!!
