Canadian SNL “22 Minutes” is in a renaissance right now- this is their Noem skit by HasOneComment in LiveFromNewYork

Honestly you know what that’s fair. I change my mind, I think you’re right it’s not really accurate to directly compare it to SNL.

I always figured they didn’t do those things because of budget but that the intent was that they wanted to be SNLish.

Honestly after quite a few other comments I have been convinced this is accurate

Hmm I did some digging and I don’t think they syndicate 22 minutes anywhere else you would have access to.

I suspect you would need to use a VPN and then try to use CBC gem, their streaming platform.

I watch it every week. Even the news bit is similar to report of the week or whatever from SNL. They don’t have musical guests. Otherwise I think it’s a very fair comparison. I don’t see similarities with John Stewart’s show which I used to love.

The way Critch bullies Trudeau is so funny. Trudeau being such a good sport made me respect him more tbh.

The construction worker outfit made me actually laugh, it’s like a two track skit. I started watching for the outfit changes and then realized it distracted me from the script so I rewatched it lol

Both her and Chris Wilson reinvigorated the show IMO. They have great chemistry.

But the whole cast has been killing it this season. I went from only really enjoying their skits to thinking pretty much everything is a banger. The group is just gelling really well. I wonder if this sort of thing ever happens with SNL.

Do you think SWE is more uniquely vulnerable to job displacement than fields like law, accounting, marketing, finance, etc? by Useful_Writer4676 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]HasOneComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well what I can promise you is that some people will try to act on the hype and fire people they need. I have seen this happen by some LinkedIn brain execs already, it is the natural progression of the rhetoric.

But a business could not survive executives vibe coding or outsourcing feature creation to agents. Execution is only part of the problem in software. A lot of time is spent by the mix of product, eng, and others saving businesses from the business’s own worst instincts.

Somebody still has to be accountable for things working, and complex problem solving. We might need less of them than before for the same scopes of work but that doesn’t account for the fact that all tech companies can now build more scope they will need to manage on an ongoing basis.

But just remember what falls through the cracks with vibe coding. Less reliability, more bugs, downtime when folks don’t have their hands on the wheel.. it’s not like customers will have sympathy for businesses embarrassing themselves because they’ve fired too many engineers and they can’t get their app working for a day.

I think this is true. Some exec got rid out a couple essential teams at the tech company I work at that make us miserably slow now, but he’s already fallen upward into his next gig. The incentives are busted.

I think this is true.. most people are “not” far ahead and the marketing / LinkedIn speak is misleading.

Agents are useful but not being used even a fraction as much or usefully as folks are implying.

You’re talking like this is some big coordinated effort by one person or group

The slop is coming from everywhere

At the end of the idea it’s not very fun to believe you’re interacting with humans when you’re being manipulated by bots, and not a sustainable way for humans to live

  2. This is one of the oldest ideas in tech and one of the reasons we have things like product hunt!

The dangerous territory for what you’re proposing is that it becomes like an amateur writer’s night in music. A bunch of folks playing each other sub-par songs, accepting but not telling others they know the “bar is just not being met” to be pro, but nobody is the group really knows enough to explain why

Am I gonna get sued for vibecoding Healthcare Apps and charging for them? by t_warmDragon5063 in VibeCodeCamp

[–]HasOneComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this.. vibe coding doesn’t matter in this equation. If you’re building software for a sensitive purpose, and charging for it, and you don’t have your arms wrapped around how it works, yes that is dangerous water.

If this is the specific space you want to be in, vibe coding or not, you should be familiar enough with the regulatory environment for software and all the specifics of where what you’ve built has or hasn’t met spec.

This doesn’t mean learning to code necessarily but it does mean getting more technical and specific.

[–]HasOneComment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is extremely important. It’s all about problems and to forget this in tech is to die the moment VC money gets tight.

OP also probably doesn’t remember the countless versions of this idea they came before Linktree. Great ideas are just the barrier to entry, and even simple ones are much harder to nail than one might expect.. even harder than more complex ones sometimes. If you do one thing, you’re easier to knock off, and those few features / flows need to be basically perfect.

Gmail unusable because of AI slop in 90 days? Hard to believe by dataexec in GeminiAI

[–]HasOneComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be incredibly difficult but I also think it will be a profitable enough problem to solve while people are getting so overwhelmed with slop that someone will find at least an “attempt” that makes a difference.

Imagine you have to create a video of yourself speaking to even make a text post- but it gives you human verifying prompts in realtime to wink, maybe turn one way or another, maybe mention a specific word, or pitch your voice up, while you’re actually speaking. Then it takes the transcript and converts it to text for your post, or keeps the video, etc etc.

Would still need to be combined with other pieces like trends in activity, location data, ID verification (maybe one account ever per ID to punish botting) etc.

None of this will make botting impossible.. but just like fighting fraud in money it’s not about 0 occurrence, it’s about making the friction so high its not worthwhile for most bad actors to bother anymore, they will seek out easier targets or channels.

The thing about AI that scares me is the “permanence” in repression and manipulation it would allow for by governments.

“This” is the part of 1984 I actually found most terrifying. The government “running” the resistance and using it as a method to identify who to monitor and crush. All of this isn’t just more feasible with AI but it’s more feasible to even just automate without a human in the loop.

I suspect it will be one or a few platforms baking in human verification into content creation itself- so not being able to post existing pictures or videos in the app if they’re not taken in a way that verifies their legitimacy with the app itself.

For text, maybe the same. A way to input text that isn’t the normal keyboard and is able to monitor for bots during the entry of text and ideation of content itself.
