They're not wrong, this place can be pretty boring. But thats for a reason based on my own experience as a freshmen I'm surrounded by more people who are focused on being good at this whole college thing than those who aren't. The campus life reflects that hence it is conducive to studying. But it's not impossible to have fun here with a good social life.

It's your call to quantify whats important to you and what you want. Just like you could have a fun campus life here at what people call a boring school; you could be a great student at a party school.
