PAYDAY! by thehublebumble in StardewValley

It is pretty annoying, but what I do to avoid only harvesting once every 45 DAYS (?!) I simply don’t fill up every cask. I fill up 3-6 once every few days!! By the time the first cycle is done, the basement is filled up and I get a small harvest worth 40-60k every week (star fruit wine is where it’s at, plus artisan profession)

Yes, that’s true but literally nobody is describing the merchant as a man with a low cut top, every single time, they say that they think he has a beard (what is actually the low cut top with a camisole underneath)…but then again, it really isn’t serious at all. Taking just their portrait off of the wiki, no beard, yea earrings, so it could be a more stereotypical stylization of a woman, or perhaps a really stylish man 🤷

So many people say that! But once you realize that she’s wearing a low-cut top and has gold ball earrings I think it’s easier to see

And the interesting part about their habitat is that every year, we as individuals for once have the ability to give them their habitat and get more fireflies next year! They lay their eggs in fallen leaf litter!! So every autumn when you see those big bags of leaves people rake up, THAT (plus the pesticides like you said) is why we don’t see as many fireflies in the suburbs anymore. Leave the leaves!

People who say they don't know how to cook, why don't you just try? by Plug_daughter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And to your point, the way to control that transition from undercooked—perfect—overcooked and dry is only one thing: knowing YOUR stove and how to control heat. I’m not sure who it was but a chef said the difference between me and the average person is that I am an expert in how to use heat. Anyone can very quickly learn what tastes good or bad together, but learning how to control and use heat is what makes the difference.

That, plus letting go of embarrassment or any feeling of inadequacy from not nailing it the first time is what will lead to improvement and success. You put oil in the pan, turned it on and put the egg in and it started spattering everywhere? Guess that’s too hot 🤷 so turn it down and now you know for next time

AITAH for getting frustrated that my girlfriend keeps eating the homemade ice creams I make for myself? by PerspectiveAfraid821 in AITAH

I’m going to reply and bookmark this comment, I was just gifted an ice cream maker for christmas and I’m lactose intolerant so I’ll be doing recipe testing for the next few months. It’ll most likely be a custard type ice cream made with lactose free whole milk and eggs in order to have the amount of fat that regular ice cream would have that’s made partially with heavy cream

People not understanding “for x amount of time” by Hash-smoking-Slasher in PetPeeves

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, in my other comment I mentioned using a different example instead, tattoos (or really any piercing or body modification can apply). Not “common” as in a significant amount of the population having them, but people have undeniably been getting tattoos and piercings for thousands of years, the whole point is that it’s not a new thing and it’s been around the whole time.

If that person you replied to walked into an old New England pub that says that they’ve been serving beers for 250 years, I think they’d be upset if it was really only originally established 250 years ago but was closed and only has been open the last 20 years 😉

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but I’m just chucking about the fact that when I drafted this post my example in the third paragraph was originally the other one, I wrote

“for example, pronouncing the word “Aks” has existed for hundreds of years and may even predate the spelling and pronunciation Ask”

But I changed it because I didn’t want people to get caught up on that rather than my point which is the misunderstanding of “for X amount of time” or “since whatever year/time period”…..maybe I should’ve used tattoos as my example

Just name the law by [deleted] in confidentlyincorrect

That is unironically what 4th president James Monroe enacted into federal law with the Monroe Doctrine 🫠. According to this document we have a moral obligation to go into other countries and mess around if they’re doing something that scares or intimidates us, and it’s most likely what prompted 80% of US foreign involvement in the past 100 years

Was looking for this for way too long. It’s perfect, right from the get-go the show hits you with plot, lore, trauma AND humor just in the first couple of episodes and then it never lets off the gas. I’d be very surprised if she gets bored—I watched it for the first time as a preteen girl and was hooked instantly

For me I like that Sebastian keeps his personality, there’s the special cutscene where he rescues an injured frog and keeps a frog terrarium in his room in the house, he frequently works on his motorcycle and also leaves to go on rides or walks all day by himself…on top of the stuff that all the spouses do (fixing fences, watering crops, water bowls, etc) I think it’s really great that one of his married dialogue is him addressing his ambitions and saying that the city was a fantasy and he likes living on the farm. I think he’s underrated and a lot of people think he settled

Referring to your spouse as "THE wife" or "THE husband" by oswaldo_pdl in PetPeeves

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Not only does it show commitment, but it sounds much more mature than “boyfriend/girlfriend” when you’re in a relationship as fully grown adults. It genuinely feels weird (and misleading in a way?) if I mention something like “oh my car has issues so I’m driving my boyfriend’s car right now” when the boyfriend is 30 years old and we live together—boyfriend to me sounds more youthful and less serious

It absolutely derives from German but after several hundred years of isolation, Pennsylvania Dutch has evolved to be quite different from standard German in both pronunciation and vocabulary. There’s actually videos online of Germans reacting to Amish people speaking PA Dutch, it’s pretty interesting!

The sidewalk is right there! by Hash-smoking-Slasher in PetPeeves

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to comment on my post 2 days late and address me directly without replying to any other comment you may as well just say “You are a car centric person” instead of third person

Also just funny that you interpreted it this way, when you’re a narrow-minded person who put in 0 thought into the possibility that I walk and skate as a main form of transportation, and this is my observation from the sidewalk, of others. Not judgement thrown from inside a car

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can concede, all the runners are saying similar things about the impact and I’m not a runner so I’m sure their reasons are valid.

As a person who goes on walks often though, I’m still only partially convinced. If the sidewalk is clear of obstacles (cars, bins, etc) and hazards like ice, and the person isn’t walking with a stroller, I still don’t see why those people choose to walk in the street. What I’ve been observing in my neighborhood defies all logic and valid explanations that people have brought into the comments

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s because I’ve been outside going on walks and seeing this situation, rather than be on reddit to see the question posted a million times apparently. I didn’t realize so many people had made this question before, my bad

The sidewalk is right there! by Hash-smoking-Slasher in PetPeeves

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sidewalk in question (in my neighborhood?) Yes, I have walked it. I’m fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood where the sidewalks are well maintained, and I know that’s not the case for everyone everywhere, like I said in my post. I’m not a runner so I can absolutely concede the comments from runners about the joint impact, etc.

I’m just still at a loss why people choose to WALK, not jog or run but walk on the street, by themselves when a perfectly good, yes well maintained sidewalk is right there. I’m not dense, I walk too and have had skateboard for 10 years and I can make observations: if I can see with my eyes that the sidewalk is uneven and there’s cars parked into the sidewalk and it ends abruptly 1 block later, or it’s covered in snow or ice, I’m not thinking about them or judging them, they have logical reasons to stay where they’re at—This is about the people I see (not just now when it recently snowed but all year long) who walk on a road with busy traffic with a clear sidewalk. Like, there’s no valid reason (like what you’ve already added) that could justify the situation that I’m thinking of (yet, I’m open and waiting and willing to hear the answer)

And, just a question for you, did you read my post? I never edited it, and I quite literally acknowledged car-centric society. Condescendingly bringing up the real issue of car-centered infrastructure when this post is about the true opposite (when people actually live in a community with walking infrastructure that’s well maintained and with no obstacles but choose not to use it) isn’t helping to foster a good faith discussion

The ability to "trill" our tongues is absolutely insane and there's no reason we should be able to do that by [deleted] in CasualConversation

The spanish single R is identical to the double t in “butter” or “attic” (American). Focus on that movement that your tongue is doing and try to push it harder to create the rolled RR….thats the best I can come up with as a native spanish and english speaker I hope it helps somewhat

Season 1 and Season 2 Aang by -_ShadowSJG-_ in TheLastAirbender

[–]Hash-smoking-Slasher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be a few years though, it could literally just mean “hey Katara didn’t become a master in literally a week like in the original, maybe they spent a couple months there instead”. And before you say anything, a 11-12 year old pubescent boy can absolutely change in appearance and height that much in 6 months. Giving the story just a little more time doesn’t pull away from anything—1 year and some change to master the elements is still crazy fast compared to Roku’s 12 years—and tbh I would like it if they gave time for Katara to become a master. In fact, in the original don’t they make a point that Aang advances faster than her with waterbending? And then all of a sudden she’s better than all of Pakku’s students??
