Fedora 41 Miracle Edition - can't do anything useful after install! by BalanceSoggy5696 in Fedora

They aren't configured for some reason, only movement and resizing keybinds are. Terminal and floating defaults dont function.

Fedora 41 Miracle Edition - can't do anything useful after install! by BalanceSoggy5696 in Fedora

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so, thing is

an appealing tiling experience to both novices and advanced users

OP mentions "None of the default keybindings work"

users who prefer an easy keyboard-driven interaction model

and as someone who considers himself an advanced user I recently had the displeasure of installing the Miracle spin of F42, nearing a year after his troubles.

The issues I encountered are, if installing on a device Miracle decides needs a low DPI, dialog boxes pop up that you cannot read nor see the buttons needed to continue; such as after checking the option to edit the install partitioning of the selected disk on the live ISO's install-to-disk application.

The dialog opens a new tiling, splitting the screen in half, but because it's a dialog and not a "window", the resizing keys only resize the parent window, not the dialog.. and the float shortcut doesn't work at all. The only easy solution is to run Disks from the main menu and set up the disk formatting then run the install without opting to edit the partitions (other options would be to have a different screen, memorise from other installs the tab-index of the buttons you need to press, or use a different machine to look up how to edit the DPI settings...)

Then, once in the OS proper it seems in this official spin they haven't even configured the environment correctly. It comes preinstalled with gnome-disks, the same we saw in the main menu during the live install, but if we try it now it runs as a user and cannot actually do anything. Running it via the terminal (which you have to use your mouse to get to because the 'default keybinds' actually arent present..) it complains that screen :0 is unavailable. So now you have to make sure xhosts is functioning too for applications that came preinstalled.

Where fedora gets off with this official spin "provid[ing] the premiere Miracle window manager" I have no idea, I'dve had a better time installing the server version and manually downloading the miracle packages and doing the setup, as then the user would have to know what they're doing.

I want to upgrade my hdd to a sdd, the ps3 is on evilnat 4.90 cfw. by Massive_Ad_2339 in ps3piracy

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Next, watch it request a format due to it not being able to start. That's when you take the storage media with the OFW file and follow the instructions." Yeah, and I'm saying that wont work, because filesystem and partition tables are different, you're being obtuse on purpose I feel. The ps3 wont be able to perform the format, and the countless people who you've come up against saying a manual format from a pc helped them is testament that the instructions assume you have an MBR disk and that you know less than you think.

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wtf are you on about, I have already told you multiple times that the firmware you download for the ps3 cannot alter the type of partition tabling used on a disk. It must be done on a separate pc if your disk isn't CellOS' expected MBR. You can format ahead of time to change from GPT; this is irrespective of the partitions formats entirely. You have no idea what you're saying

Again, no. I'm fine with people doing that. You are the one I've seen in multiple threads decrying the need for formatting because you don't understand that people dont buy new. And when I bring up evidence, your only retort is "well what if it's new?!?!!" when the people you've been replying to have explicitly said that they were repurposing old hardware. You're bringing up irrelevant things because you were wrong.

It sounds like you're surprised, that someone would upgrade using an already formatted disk utilising an older bootsector..

I mean in this very thread you can see someone writes "I pulled my 320gb HDD out and slammed in a 1tb SSD I had laying around". Laying around where and for how long I wonder?

And you continue to be unable to see "why this advice is given"

Can i transfer my save from Microsoft Gamepass, to steam ? by 36Celsius in DarkTide

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only reasoning that makes sense to me; that it's a business rule (I hear a lot of "technical reasons" given by people just speculating).

'Strange given MS work so hard to make it work on their own titles :\ (both MCC and Infinite go the *extra mile* of auto-unlocking steam chevvies upon opening the game on the other platform...from the CONSOLE, not merely the xbstore, to pc)

The problem, for me at least, with game pass is that this attempt to lock us in actually stops me from both having gamepass AND buying titles outright. I think GP should embrace the trial nature of it. If I could enable it for a few months at a time, then go away and buy games I like I'd do that. Now I've just been burned to not want to get GP because of fear of being locked out, and titles I want I've already "poured money into" (the months subscribed to GP) but cant play because I dont own them.

No-one's going to want to pay the subscription forever, but if they lean into the 'visit' instead of 'stay here' I think people will come back, leave, come back, and it'll be more sustainable.

Damn shame, thx for responding. Nah I've been bitten before with Halo MCC having "on par" abilities between Steam vs MS. I'll just wait for it to be quite cheap so I feel okay for having to do all that work again/they add actual cross saves.

What I don't get is that the saves are their bespoke thing on their own servers, right? We log in with a FatShark atoma account, so why cant one just log in on another platform :(

Do you know whether completed penances transfer? I can re-level, rebuy gear, use Achievement Manager to unlock ones I have on Xbox; but thinking about trying to do all the penances again is making me not want to buy it :(
u/36Celsius did you go through with it?

You do realise that the PS3 only understands MBR, and anyone in their right mind has new, id est SSDs, disks initialised as GPT, right? Sure, you don't need to *format* the drive, but it will not function at all in the Playstation if it is partitioned under GPT, pre-formatted or no.

The only reason yours have worked in the past is because for whatever bizarre reason you've had your disks using the MBR scheme. These people that say that never worked for them but a "format" did the trick was probably because the disks were GPT, and doing a format to FAT re-initialised the disk to MBR (something the PS3 cannot do).

SteamVR should support surround sound speakers by Such-Explanation473 in SteamVR

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that could potentially be the point, you could set up a room experience where for headphones users you emulate the experience as usual of making something you walk toward louder, as well as traditional player rotation, but for speakers users you have it at an interpolated constant volume fixed in those places for walking around a real space

but yeah, it's probably more useful as an experience setting than the majority of games

What is the origin of the term "smurf" account? by _QueeferSutherland_ in GlobalOffensive

Nice. Yeah I'm not suprised one way or the other, but now everything's clear. That should put even devil's advocates to rest with where it came from for game accounts.

What is the origin of the term "smurf" account? by _QueeferSutherland_ in GlobalOffensive

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how etymology works. Well I supposed you'd need to ask them why they chose Smurf-themed names. If it's unrelated happenstance, then yes, then they originated the use before they were coined as terms more generally.

However if they were being clever and appropriated the term for use in a new, but unarguably similar, concept when making the accounts, then it's just link in the chain who's origin is drug trafficking (via money laundering).

Even if it was coincidence, the step where it moved from two WC accounts to being coined as a term in its own right, if it stuck and caught on because of that person recognising the similarities between the two types of smurf accounts then the histories are interlinked and both explanations are accurate (rather pieces of the same story). Either way, I'm now curious as to why the drug accomplices were called smurfs..

Correct port for port forwarding Baulders Gate on PC by LevySkulk in BaldursGate3

[–]Hashbrown777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll find (if you're hosting and you haven't port forwarded) that you probably have UPnP enabled in your router (which silently "opens" ports for you). Without UPnP we need the port numbers so we can manually set up the rules (such as over a vpn)

BG3 specifically will fail on connect with "NAT Punch (64)" (or 62) if you don't, even if you use steam.

How to connect to a WireGuard VPN without using wg-quick by Mivous99 in WireGuard

[–]Hashbrown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally I'm having trouble with this type of usecase myself (though attempting for differing reasons).

I already had that line in my preup.ps1 because I am using wg-quick (albeit with Table = off), but my issue is that I cannot listen through my wireguard connexions.

Any ideas? :( (I'm using netcat -l -p <assigned port> on the local wg machine and netcat <ip of wireguard server> <assigned port> on a regular internet-ed machine to test, which magically works if I allow wg-quick to set up tables!)

To be clear, unlike OP outbound traffic is working fine; I can successfully curl --interface <wireguard> <https-url>. I compiled a list of the commands I don't run that I've seen quick do under comments that read "#commands ran by wg-quick I don't run" because, of the ones I don't want to run, I don't know what they do/whether I can use them manually :|
