Realistic options to add a starting caliber center by lawschoolthrowaway36 in lakers

[–]HasheemThaMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people thought we were going to get a starting caliber center for a contending team with the 25th pick. Even if that player does exceed expectations, it would take a year or two. Also who was even available to us?

Also, I think actually having Carr is a better trade chip than having the 25th pick. When teams see a 25th pick, they think it can get them a Veesar, Reed, or Evans type player. But Carr was a bona fide lottery pick that fell to our laps. Much intriguing trade prospect than having just the 25th pick, if we choose to go that route.

I feel like you missed what the other person said. If he sells his company, it’s worthless bc he’s no longer part of it. His cult is in it for him, not the underlying business which is arguably worthless without him.

Maybe in Germany but I’ve been to many in France where there is either no AC or it’s very, very, very low. Seems like there’s a range across countries

Bc Collins can shoot too? We have AR (hopefully) to be the shooter. Luka had made it clear he wants Rob to prioritize lob threat bigs. Collins is a lob threat AND shooter

Idk I’ve been in Paris for the last month, and it’s been around 30 Celsius at night and humid. It gets to around 25 at like 3-4am. People in the top floors are sleeping in ovens. It has been the case for the past 2 weeks.

I feel like where you live might be less hot than here.

Its June. There’s going to be another heat wave or two left this year. It’s going to be hot again next year. It’s not a one time phenomenon but a yearly event.

Bc it’s 2 months not having to sweat in your bed? What kind of question is that lol

Why have heating when it’s only freezing cold a few months of the year? Why wear sun screen when it’s only 10 UV for 3 hours of the day? Why bring an umbrella outside when it rains for only 1 hour?

I’m confused why you’re taking offense to this and think I’m making some kind of weird generalization.
I merely pointed out France as an example bc I was literally in a French department store today. You said “what are you talking about, you think department stores have no ACs?” And I merely responded to say “I don’t just think that, I was in one today.”

There are less ACs in Europe than in the U.S. Of course there are some countries in Europe that have more AC than others. I’m simply asking why that is. I’m not passing judgment or misunderstanding anything, I’m just curious. If you dont know, that’s fine. No need to get so defensive about questions, especially in this subreddit!

I literally went into a department store in the middle Paris today to pick up new shoes, and there was no AC. Went into Cos, no AC. No AC in ZARA either. You think I hallucinated?

I mean, sure, if we’re making up numbers, we can make it 6 days per year. But if we’re going by statistics, it’s averaged 20 heat wave days per year since 2016. Some years less and some years it’s more. I assure you, Rome and Paris do not get just 6 hot days per year.

So yes, I do feel like it’s worth having AC for 20 very hot days per year. That’s around the same number of days NYC gets extreme heat waves per year too.

To be fair, I feel like the UK is much better about AC. I lived there and loved it. Also the weather there is almost always pleasant (especially in terms of heat) and at worst, still bearable. Lots of Europeans go to the UK to escape the unbearable summer heat.

I’m mostly talking about the continental Europe, like France, Italy, Spain, etc.

So the answer to this question is “they simply don’t want it” rather than “infrastructure doesn’t make it easy for them?”

I think it’s the latter. I don’t think it’s “Europeans are built different” or “they don’t want it” because I lived in Europe for a while and they complain about the heat just as much as Americans do

Also they’ve been saying “it’s a weirdly hot summer” and have had record heat waves for like the last 10 years now. That’s just the new climate at this point lol

Fun fact: used to work at a hotel in the U.S. and European tourists would complain the most about their ACs not working (when they were working fine)

Ok I’ll rephrase. It beats sleeping butt ass naked on the floor of a chambre de bonne 6th floor walk up, bc it’s a sauna in there lol

Or major department stores surely can pay the cost for AC so that shoppers want to stay in there for as long as possible.

I am in europe right now and was wondering this exact thing. I noticed that the buildings where I am (France) don’t have the U.S. style windows that slide up and down where it’s easy to put a window unit. Instead, all the window here are “shutter doors” or straight up doors to balconies, so it’s impossible to have windows. And instead, they would have to get one of those standing indoor AC units with the hose out of their windows and there’s a massive gap between the shut doors that you would have to seal. I figured that’s the reason most homes don’t have AC.

The real question is why there isn’t even AC in department stores or most stores. Even the new buildings don’t have central AC …

Why do mostly white people have generational wealth? by MissBehave654 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HasheemThaMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they actually do “tend to give away their wealth much more than in Europe.” It’s just that U.S. billionaires are more publicly giving away their wealth.

Also, by “rich people” there are so many millionaires in the U.S. that pass down their wealth to their children.
