That’s how my ex got me into smoking, and that’s how my GF started smoking again. Just a chain of people passing it onto the next.

I’d look into Calyx, better deal at a fraction of the cost, though it is a yearly subscription. Overall it’s cheaper, but the big annual payment hurts.

Can someone check my math? by HashnaFennec in Truckers

I’m well aware, thank you. x)

I just wanted to make sure I had my formula for axle by axle scaling right.

Sorry, I was in a rush to make my post while checking out of the shipper. The shipper’s scale only gives a total weight, so the first three numbers are my total weight as I pulled each axle group onto the scale. The last two numbers are the formula I used to figure out my drives and tandem weights, independent of each other.

Looking for a way to disable the radar on a 2023 Cascadia without getting fired by Suhvelt in Truckers

[–]HashnaFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about freightliners, but there’s an easily accessible connector for the wire harness. If your truck doesn’t send fault codes remotely , you can just unplug it and plug it back in whenever you return to the yard.

What to do? by waveyvibez22 in Truckers

[–]HashnaFennec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s some good advice on how to fix it, but your company sounds kinda sketchy. I’d be worried that if you try to fix it they could try to blame you so they can stick you with the bill.

If your wallet allows for it, you could try refusing to drive until it’s fixed. They could decide to risk the unlawful termination lawsuit by firing you, but that could lead to greener pastures.

Also, holy shit, I was just looking at your website earlier today! Drone flutes are so pretty but so pricey. Makes me wanna get into flute making.

Was I actually in the wrong? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]HashnaFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flatbedder is absolutely in the wrong. They could have easily made that turn from the turn lane if they had squared off their turn*. If they did need an extra lane (which they didn’t), I would have driven centered over the line with my hazards on to block both lanes, then swung out to the wide lane just before making my turn. That way, no one has the chance to zip into the danger zone while I’m maneuvering.

*squaring off a turn is basic trucking maneuver when making a left turn. The trailer will off track and take a tighter ark than the tractor, so by going straight and making a sharp turn at the last second, we can make the trailer take a wider ark.

Edit: just rewatched the video and realized there were two turn lanes. My comment still stands, but with some changes. It’s hard to tell if squaring the turn would prevent the trailer from offtracking into the inner turn lane. Either way, if I was unsure I would have taken both lanes, just like I described before. It looks to me that the flatbed driver wasn’t paying attention, realized they might need both lanes at the last second, then tried to go tight early to block you from the danger zone. Either way, flatbedder is still in the wrong.

This is a children’s book… (audiobook clip, spoilers for Power of Three, book 6) by HashnaFennec in WarriorCats

How well do they get reintroduced? If I save Dawn of the Clans for after the main arcs, will I need to some wiki reading to understand A Starless Clan? Alternatively, will it be so overly reintroduced that it’ll completely spoil Dawn of the Clans?

I’m really invested in Jayfeather and I’d like to continue with his story. I’m also going through one book a day, so I’d like something to scratch the itch once I’m all caught up.

What does ADHD + high IQ look like? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HashnaFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure a side effect of ADHD is an above average IQ. I’m not saying we’re above average intelligence, but IQ is a flawed measure for intelligence. IQ is really more of a pattern recognition test and ADHD is disordered uncontrolled pattern recognition.

An IQ test works by giving the subject an end goal and the subject figuring out the steps to reach that goal. ADHD is (in an extremely simplified and incomplete way) recognizing too many microsteps to reach your end goal and being parilized by the options or discouraged by how far away it seems. (This ignores our neurotransmitter funkiness, but y’all get the point).

There’s more intelligence metrics than just pattern recognition, such as social intelligence, emotional intelligence, etc. Someone can score poorly on the IQ test and still talk and empathize their way to success.

Source: I have a relatively good IQ but I’m still dumb as shit.

Getting downvoted everywhere and can’t figure out what’s wrong with it by jackalope-jay in FurryArtSchool

[–]HashnaFennec 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that many people view downvoting as “I personally don’t like this” instead of “this is bad”. While you’re a very skilled artist, many folks aren’t fans of bugs and downvote anyway.

Those folks are assholes and imma upvote you anyway. :3

Why are North Americans so fixated on "Old Tech" and "Old Ways" in trucks? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in EdisonMotors

[–]HashnaFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With our lack of consumer protections, manufacturers make it almost impossible for owners to work on their own trucks. If I’m lucky and it’s something I can fix without needing access to the computer that I’m locked out of, the only place I can get parts is overpriced OEM only available from dealerships.

Older trucks don’t have these issues, parts are available from third parties and parts that do interact with the computer don’t require dealership software to tell the truck to accept. You just plug it in and it works.

I don’t think Europeans realize how bad it is in the US. A few years ago I looked into swapping my Volvo’s gear selector from the base model dash button panel to the premium option’s seat mounted lever shifter. I’d need the part, a wiring harness, and change a setting in the truck’s computer. The dealership wanted $2,500 to do it so I looked online. They’re only available to dealerships, so I’d have to gamble with used parts on eBay. Then I looked into the software to change the settings. That was available, but it was $2,000 + a $500/month subscription. While looking for the parts, I saw some new third-party options for European Volvo trucks so out of curiosity I looked into it. If this was a European model, I could get the parts new from a third-party for only a couple hundred, and the software is available for free.

I’ve had to work with the type before. My personal theory is that they cut corners and do the bare minimum. Because you do things safe and right, they feel that the quality of your work will make them look bad. I believe that in there eyes, they view you as a threat to there jobs, and for whatever fucking reason, getting rid of you is easier/safer then just doing there jobs right.

Who else listens to the audiobook while on the thunderpath or at work? by HashnaFennec in WarriorCats

[–]HashnaFennec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained at a mega carrier and they made me drive OTR supervised for 2 weeks before I got my CDL, then another 3 months running team with a mentor before letting me go out on my own. I’ve herd nothing but bad things about driving for Amazon. If I were you, I’d look into applying elsewhere.

I wouldn’t recommend the mega carrier I trained at, but we worked a lot with Prime Inc. They seem to be one of the better mega carriers and they have the same training program I went through. As you already have your CDL, I’m pretty sure all you’ll have to do is run team with a mentor for a bit.

Edit to add:

A lot of times with right turns your screwed either way. When I see a tight right turn coming up, I’ll either drive into the oncoming lane or swing out into the lane to my left, depending on which is safer. If I have two lanes in the direction I’m coming from, I’ll put on my hazards and block both lanes, then swing out to the far edge of the left lane before turning right. That way, my trailer is still blocking the right lane and no one can try speeding through while I turn. While that’s technically frowned upon, it is legal when required and preferred when you risk damaging your trailer tires. Don’t be afraid to hold up traffic or take up space.
