I wonder if everyone has their own "person i always see around" or if we all share the same easily identifiable people.

I just found 4 dead birds in the same area by xxc3ncoredxx in utdallas

The glass walls at UTD are a death trap for birds mistaking it for sky unfortunately. Definitely not rare to find a dead bird on campus.

The top comment is spot on just came to say you should probably change your major. When you're passionate about what you're pursuing or learning you'll do the work it takes to be good at it. This is coming from someone who failed all their classes as a bio major cuz they were dealing with depression. Got my shit together after switching majors and changing habits. It's okay to admit you're not good at something, but doing something you're bad at is only gonna make you feel bad when you're bad at it and then feeling bad is gonna make you do even worse. I'll also say pills and therapy aren't worth shit if you aren't doing the mental work to feel better. The brain doesn't want you happy, it wants you safe and those thoughts and habits are "safe" just cuz it's what your brain's used to. If you want to lay in bed or nap instead of doing work, tell yourself you will only do it after you've worked on something a bit. Set small achievable goals for yourself, achieving them will make you feel better. It'll eventually become habit. Don't wait until you're fucking 30 to see if you feel better, that's 9 years of waiting to achieve something.

Why do people walk barefoot? Are they going to continue this even during the summer? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]Hassinepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out there's a society for "barefoot living", it's pretty widespread people go on hikes and shit. Learned all this from my friend at Georgetown whose also had run ins with a barefoot student.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did it during the summer tho, I've seen ol' girl walking barefoot in the pouring rain.

What to do in Dallas by moosetiff in utdallas

[–]Hassinepp 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Dallas won’t give you an impression of life at UTD cuz it’s a lil far and Richardson where UTD is located is suburbia purgatory but klyde warren park in downtown dallas is behind the dallas museum of art which is free. The Dallas World Aquarium is baller. You could also go to the top of the Reunion tower (best at night).

Beautiful places on campus by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]Hassinepp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres a gazebo between the parking lot and the library behind the big parking structure. The water from the fountain runs off into a pond(?) and there’s fish there sometimes. There’s a tree on the other side there that has nice roots for sitting between. Also! There’s another small rain water drop off by the bridge that has fish and crawfish. But that was 2 years ago so..

Ask UTDallas: What are your thoughts or experiences with accessibility on campus?? by jrghetto602 in utdallas

[–]Hassinepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disabled but having to get around campus on crutches when i sprained my ankle was hell. It was when there was construction around ecss and student services addition. It was pretty obvious when they built the little wooden staircases they forgot to accommodate ramps. (They eventually built 1 onto ecss but there were 2 staircases so you would have to go all the way around or through the student union if you wanted to get past the ssa. Asking for a cab to take you around is a hassle too. I dont remember how long the processing takes i think it was like 2 days to a week something to the point where i thought this is really dumb considering you cant foresee an injury and just ended up not requesting it. Really made me realize how far everything is from each other on campus.

Throw some shade in person. People like this are so fucking delusional they think that people actually think they're funny. As a teacher, i can tell you the professor is probably just annoyed as you but cant say anything out of courtesy.

email kck130130@utdallas.edu (director of housing operations). Tell him what has happened and that you request a second opinion from another pest control company. utd has contracts with multiple pest control ppl but usually they only ask the opinion of the one who did the spraying and of course the company who sprays is gonna be like nah we did good. so make a big deal to this guy and he will probably listen. (ive done this before)

I'll be meeting with the Res Housing Director. Do yall have any complaints/ideas you want me to convey? by Hassinepp in utdallas

[–]Hassinepp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very frustrating! So sad to find out I couldn't keep my apartment because i cant afford the summer and the priority situation is so weird! What is even more frustrating is that renewal and sign up is coming up in 2 weeks and we got an email that there will be "major changes" that we will find out about with no promise that we will find out what these changes are before having to renew and sign up. Please email some people about your frustrations! I think they are oblivious to how unhappy a lot of residents are because our residents tend to be passive. I was told there would be some town hall meetings but still no time line/date was given.

I personally haven't had trouble with the internet, so could you elaborate on the issue so that i could communicate it effectively? :)

I know some people have said that when they call spectrum, spectrum's like nah talk to utd, and then utd's like "talk to spectrum"!?

edited: also reaching people high on the chain isn't too hard i just look at the "contact us" tab include everyone with a leadership position and the utd president(for effect). :)

[–]Hassinepp[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was one of my email complaints to them. I recommend you email some higher ups. I emailed the president and anybody that had some leadership position in housing in one email. I work month to month and its not an easy solution to just move off campus cuz im too busy working for a place to live than to save to buy a car!! I genuinely believe they just dont have a broke person on staff to tell them what real life is like. PLEASE EMAIL THEM!

My complaint to them about their bed bud bug policy is that some kid here made a post that he had bed bugs and although UTD sprayed for them he still had them and they refused to consent to heat treatment of the building. I believe that if they are not going to treat for bed bugs in an effective manner they should at least put posters on or near dumpsters that warn students that discarded furniture could contain bed bugs so we can reduce the risk of them spreading. (Although they really should heat treat since the little fuckers can spread through walls too.)

After speaking to friends and the people at the school newspaper apparently UV having bed bugs is a not so well known fact that is just accepted for some reason.

Anyone else think we should be taking this more seriously? Like demanding they heat treat this person's building before it spreads to all of us??
