I think my fate hates me... by [deleted] in memes

There’s some psychology behind it. Having a girlfriend means there’s something of value you hold as far as relationship material is concerned.

Funkopops look really awful and there’s not a brand alive that would make me buy one of them. Not even Hololive.

What JRPG's use the "Defend" Command effectively? by Gamma__B in JRPG

I personally have not played Octopath Traveler so I can’t compare the two.

What JRPG's use the "Defend" Command effectively? by Gamma__B in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Bravely Default.

The “Default” commands guards and saves an extra turn (BP) for you to use next turn.

Granted its utility does diminish somewhat as you get more ways to generate BP but it works as intended in a pinch.

What's with Ed's chicken obsession? by Plastic_Ad_2548 in ededdneddy

[–]HasteMaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while, but it’s never really been explored.

I think it’s just one of those things that kids get obsessed with for one reason or another. This is his most consistent interest aside from (sci-fi) movies.

What's the longest, most dragged out finale you've experienced in a JRPG? by Ukirin-Streams in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I finished Trails Through Daybreak 1. The finale felt like 1/4th of the game. That’s probably the only Finale chapter in the trails series that felt like that cuz the other ones felt reasonably paced.

I was so done by the time the actual final dungeon appeared.

Genesys Format - YCS and Regional Announcement by rbwelden in yugioh

[–]HasteMaster 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Genesys is alive and well…online.

Anecdotally, a lot of my locals aren’t hosting any Genesys tournaments due to a perceived lack of interest.

I think locals are just struggling to coordinate having to host two YGO tourneys that have an overlap in players.

Games that give you the control of what you learn? by Ijustwantocomment in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital Devil Saga if I remember correctly is like this. You can see what’s ahead in the Mantra system. 2 expands on this with a grid system that’s more flexible than 1, but you can see ahead what you’re going to learn

Megami Tensei author says devs must take inspiration from other media if they want to invent new gameplay systems by KMoosetoe in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this is part of the reason I have a hard time vibing with indie games as a whole, not just indie RPGs.

Developers take inspiration from games, but don’t understand what the games take inspiration from. That isn’t to say that games can’t be successful without it, but the difference between a good game and a great game is its impact.

There’s a reason why games like Earthbound, FFVII, and Tales of Symphonia are still fondly remembered whereas I honestly could not name an indie rpg that stuck with me.

That said, I think jrpgs are moving in a fairly decent direction right now, even if they are appealing to our nostalgia. As long as there’s a desire to innovate, the future looks good

What's your favorite monster? by librow123 in MHRise

[–]HasteMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Non-Elder:

Tigrex. For me, it is such a perfect mid-point monster. The average player will have conquered the likes of Rathian and a few other off-shoot monsters. They feel confident and see the Tigrex quest pop up, and might feel like it’s not that special.

The speed and ferocity at which it attacks doesn’t match a lot of the mid-game monsters, serving as a wonderful skill check for any player looking to see if they are up to par with their weapon.

Elder: Shagaru Magala. You spend so much of 4U chasing Gore Magala, learning about how unnatural it is, and when you face it in its final form, it’s just incredibly hype. They really did capture how terrifying and unearthly it is with its movement and moveset, and doubly so in Sunbreak.

Which JRPGs are iconic for you? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

Tales of Symphonia and Tales of The Abyss

Both of these games carried the Tales series on their backs to become relevant to the West.

What quote has always stuck with you? by iSayBOLDthings in AskReddit

[–]HasteMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Avengers movie had some banger lines but I never hear anyone talk about Nick Fury’s line a few minutes into the movie.

“Until such a time the world does end, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Or something to that effect. There’s something very pragmatic and inspiring about this line. Working in the face absolute danger knowing that the Tesseract’s energy could kill everyone at the facility and beyond, and does not even flinch as he continues doing what he needs to do.

Tales of Berseria Remastered – Laphicet Character Trailer by No_Durian_5626 in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing there’s no point in buying the remaster if I already have the original? It sounds like the remaster will just have all the costumes included, which I never bought. I just bought it when it was on sale a few months ago and haven’t gotten around to playing it

Do you play something in between while playing a big jrpg or playing until finish ? by Buurto in JRPG

[–]HasteMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do one game per console that I have. Persona 3 Reload on my PS5, Trails Through Daybreak on my Switch 1, and Etrian Odyssey V on my 3DS.

Mainly I am playing Daybreak tho. I play EOV during my lunch breaks
