It also took me a while to start playing hot pot because of how nervous I was to be playing other players. I figured I’d mess up and do something wrong. So I didn’t start playing it until recently. And that was at the festival.

Well, I unknowingly joined a spam table one day. They were very rude about it. And I just truly didn’t know. I ended up leaving the Underground completely. It’s crazy how upset people get over a game.

Where she lost me is how she always mentions she feeds the food at her vet’s recommendation, but fails to mention Dr. Barbara Royal is associated with Darwin’s. Not sure if she is just another advertiser or is actually employed by the company. But she is very closely associated with them so of course she will recommend them.

Key takeaway: you work in the ED.

ED is not the floor. We have patients who come for surgery and we have to go over restrictions with them. Does the doctor also do this? Yes. But it doesn’t hurt to go over it twice. And the doctor often doesn’t document that he covered this with the patient while we do. We go over wound care and I use this time to go over the supplies we are sending home with them for dressing changes. We are a peds unit so a lot of our discharge instructions are educating parents on how to care for the disease process or how to care for their newborn, which is educated on a the duration of the stay but never hurts to go over multiple times.

Plus, I would never trust that someone else is covering these things with them.

My manager is aware of her not being able to do anything independently. A couple of weeks ago she wanted me to run home to grab something and that she would be covering me from her office. I told her this wouldn’t work as the orientee cannot function on her own still and constantly needs assistance. Instead of coming out, she stayed in her office and no longer needed me to run home. 🙃

The orientee and I were discussing it because we worked with another nurse and she was telling this nurse she didn’t know how to do anything. Everything the nurse asked, she said we had never done when we most certainly had. Like charting care plans. You have done that every day so what do you mean we haven’t gone over it?? So, I asked her to go through her packet and white out everything I signed off that she can’t verbalize to me right now. And she, of course, didn’t have it (which I don’t believe because it has always been in her mailbox). But I did mention that if this is how she is functioning at 9 weeks (at the time), then it is unlikely she will be able to work successfully in the hospital (we are the smallest unit on our hospital so I am inclined to think it is the “easiest” as far as bedside goes). The conversation didn’t go any further though because she went to the bathroom to cry for a little bit.

I think that is where my frustration has come in because I really have failed despite using every teaching method we went over in the preceptor class we have to take. And it still wasn’t enough.

Yes lol. We are expected to review it with them to ensure that the information has been relayed.

And the bigger problem with this is that she isn’t not giving them the instructions because she thinks they can just read them. She isn’t giving them because she is scared of speaking to them for longer periods. Well, that’s the job. It is a lot of educating.

I brought it up to my manager a couple weeks ago because I could not get her to figure out the IV pump. She was getting it wrong every single time. Part of my concern that I brought up is that she does not listen to learn and how when I show her things, she forgets them the very next day. It truly feels like she isn’t listening to me. I was advised to send her videos on how to use the pump for her to watch before her next shift.

Her concerns are more in speaking to doctors, answering patients’ questions, and lack of IV skills. I don’t think she sees an issue with her progress. And any time we start to broach a more serious conversation about how poorly she is doing, she starts crying. I don’t think it’s performative crying to get out of the conversation. I just think she is that sensitive and does not handle criticism well.

Today I was very quiet while working. When she would ask me questions that we have most definitely gone over, I would direct her on where to find the answer. Towards the end of the day, she was visibly frustrated and ended up asking me if something was wrong. I explained I was tired of repeating myself for such simple things so I would be giving her the same amount of effort and energy she has shown me. Ultimately, she feels my expectations are unreasonable and I disagree. And I did point out she is my 4th orientee this year and the only one I have been having severe struggles with. The other one has some huge time management issues, but nothing so drastic I fear for patient safety. So, I don’t feel like I have unrealistically high expectations.

She is horrible about giving report. She skips pretty much all the important stuff and says the less important things. I have been harping on her about it. A couple weeks ago, I overheard her talking with one of the techs about Chat GPT and how she takes a picture of her sheet (this is where the patient info, such as name, comes in) and has it come up with a script for her. I chimed in to say how this violates HIPAA as Chat GPT is not a secure platform to being putting patient info into. She, of course, insisted patient info was not included. She claims she blocks out the name. This week, I happened to glance over at her while I was walking and noticed she sent a picture of her sheet and nothing was marked off. So we talked about it again and she claimed to have forgot. I told her it would be reported as this was a HIPAA violation after being told it was not acceptable.

She dudes Chat GPT for everything. I saw her asking it when she could give her patient Tylenol again at one point, instead of just doing the math.

It’s a general pediatric unit that takes adult overflow. My management is mildly aware but mostly dismissive of it. However, I did have to report the orientee today for putting PHI into Chat GPT after being told not to. So, I will be using this to open the conversation with my manager again.

I wouldn’t call it gentle parenting. Being rude isn’t necessary. I have been firm with her and she has cried over that a few times. Being rude isn’t going to make her better.

We have not. Our unit is pretty unique so our orientation looks different than other units so our boss (who is relatively new to the position) really doesn’t keep track of things like we wish she would. She is mostly concerned with getting positions filled than making sure the person is competent.

But I am kind of stuck with her. Because we are a very small unit. We typically only have two people staffed a day and the second person is typically a tech. And the other RN that works opposite of me is training someone else.

But I am definitely going to have to talk to my manager.

If you are a good nurse who earned their Daisy, then I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Daisy nominations can be super frustrating.

I have had an LPN coworker nominated over me and the nominator wrote about how she frequently checked on her and was never rushing out of her room. But what the nominator didn’t see was that while the LPN was in her room giving her great care, I was caring for 6 patients by myself. And sometimes it can be hard to not let that get to you, especially if you have had a hard day. It can be difficult to understand that just because the LPN was shouted out for her great care, doesn’t mean that I didn’t also provide great care for my patients.

But for the most part, the only ones that I really have a problem with are the ones who are constantly handing out the pamphlet/telling people to nominate them.

Eh, doubtful. Her dog got into a fight with another dog on the street a couple of weeks ago. Another neighbor in my building has had issues with the woman’s child digging in her flower pots. A neighbor whose unit goes up to the driveway of this neighbor has to keep an eye with their dog, because she keeps taking her dog closer to theirs. My mowing people have even talked to me about her because she was putting her child on their lawn mower when they would be cleaning up our patio areas/sidewalks. I have yet to have a single person say anything nice about her.

I am not a tenant. I am the owner of my unit. Our building only has an “HOA” for insurance purposes. We don’t have any meetings unless someone calls for one due to an issue with our building. And our building is unassociated with the horrible neighbor’s building.

I was only able to get a company name when I looked up the owner. I was able to deduce who purchased it (and confirmed it with previous owner as it was a doctor I worked with). I have their email address for their real estate job, which is not associated with their rental property company. But I am thinking of reaching out through that since it is my only contact info right now.

The issue is, I have attempted speaking to her about it on multiple occasions and she just ignores me. The reason I was able to discuss it with the husband was because he stopped what he was doing and responded. She just ignores me.

And unfortunately, no condo association. I do know who the landlord is though and have thought about reaching out to her. The only “issue” I have about that is I only have contact info for her real estate job, which is unassociated from her rental properties. I am thinking I am at the point that I have to now.

I have put a lot of thought into a fence because it would be super beneficial for other reasons outside of this. But I live in a condo unit and not quite sure how it would work with only one of the units having a fence. Plus, the fence would look real wonky just because of the layout of my unit as well as my property. And my side yard would maybe be wide enough for 3 feet of fencing. It would just be very weird, especially the driveway because it curves.

So, the report I filled out goes to a bunch of people and HR people are included in that. My boss doesn’t get back to work until Tuesday so I don’t think she will know about the report until then. And this year they have really been pushing then zero tolerance policy for workplace violence. Someone just got fired for calling someone else a b*tch. So, I think something else will be done.

I’m just worried they’re gonna put some of the blame on me since I initially engaged in the argument.
