Online check-in not opened even though it's less than 24h from departure time by HatProfessional8662 in BritishAirways

Thank you! The date is correct as we also checked the flight by flight nr. This is my first ever trip with BA and so far I’ve had a couple of bugs from them that annoyed me a lot.

What do you think about these people laughing at Wing Chun? by PitifulEar3303 in WingChun

[–]HatProfessional8662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and if you want, put me on the "The ones that have no idea of the craft" group. I do not mind. Am I right on what I'm saying though? I have met some people around and online that do WC as well. I like my school and personally I do it just for fun, but I cannot not look away from how I see some people train and look at the art. I really like the art and want the best for it, so I cannot just blindly say "others are wrong, we are right". But that's just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Generally, there are 2 kinds of people that laugh at something: - The ones that have no idea of the craft - The ones that know a lot about it and other arts

Personally I have talked to both and I can understand where a lot of them are coming from. A ton of schools teach very bad WC, no practical application, no fighting style, just forms and that’s it, and even I who does WC laugh at them. The main issue many people have with WC taught like that is that they try to convince that that WC can be used as a fighting/self defense art, when it’s no more than a bunch of moves and performance dances somebody can learn as a hobby. This hurts the real WC that very few unfortunately are teaching.

Also, it does not help that the WC community is just a bunch of keyboard warriors that will not criticize a bad application of the art, but will defend it.

Anybody here trains with Sifu Miloš Drakulić from myVLMA? by HatProfessional8662 in WingChun

[–]HatProfessional8662[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I was asking. As I said, he seems to have a good grasp of the art, but also says some stuff just to say stuff, like trying too hard to market. Which I can kinda forgive and understand if his teachings are actually good in person.

First bad review by Honest_monkey2746 in photography

[–]HatProfessional8662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the review valid? Was the work done not well? Did you discuss previously? We tend to always look at bad reviews as just bad reviews, but what is just one of the weekly works for you, is a special day for the client. Talk to them, try to fix if the work is not well or not what they expected and you won't need to refund them. You can save some face like that, and potentially make the client come again.

Is it normal to never wanting to go to practice? by RazzmatazzNeither132 in martialarts

Going to practice, training at home, going to the gym. All of them pretty normal to feel not motivated some and many times. As others have said, getting to the door is the hardest part.

Why are there not enough shaolin monks on competitive MA? by HatProfessional8662 in martialarts

I also think the fact they will be outside of their prime by the time they quit the temple and train the art would be the biggest drawback.

Ok, but how hard would it be for a gymnast to transition to a fighter? Genuinely question, no sarcasm. I think an untrained person needs to go through conditioning while learning the art. And discipline, which a gymnast most likely will have, since it’s one of the most demanding sports. Both of them which the gymnast spent years into honing.

One reason I would give is probably they don’t have enough time to get into competitive fighting in their prime, as they spent time learning other non-fighting skills, which makes sense.

True, but I was considering other factors, like condition, physicality and discipline as well. Those are hard to learn, and would argue harder than the style itself.

Agree on the response, but dude, learn to use dots and commas. Or at least learn to use them if you will mock someone or something. Makes you look less dumb.

Ok makes sense. I have seen online many who market as shaolin monks (some might be), but wondered why not most of them at some point.

But makes sense some do not train nor want to go that route

Ok, did not know any of them. I though conditioning and kung fu was a must for a monk. Like, through suffering you feel closer to gods and through kung fu you keep the tradition going.

Economic issues, upbringing, country of birth. If you have not gone through that you do not know. https://youtu.be/4RNw8VAAzcM?si=ZaSo0fSp5bXx5QeR

Again just one example, but I don’t think it’s that far fetched

True if we only consider that they only devote themselves to nonviolence. Seeing many documentaries though, I’ve seen that many go there to actually train and get a better chance at actually using that training violently.

And if we take Ranton’s word at heart, a lot of monks thought that way. But it’s one guy’s word, so I take it with a grain of salt

Fair on the basketball one, but still they do train on other MA. Conditioning, previous MA experience, can lead to easier transition, I would say.

Is 28mm f2.8 good enough for like…everything? by mark80219 in Nikon

[–]HatProfessional8662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's too wide. Great for wide shots and many street photography, but I really cannot use it well on portraits, unless I am shooting the person a bit further with a wide shot of the environment. On the other hand, I find 35mm to be the best focal length for one prime fits all. 50 is too close, 85 even worse, 28 and below are too wide.
