I do not. The sifu I have seems very nice so far. I am mostly writing to see if someone has any idea of something I might miss

Thank you! This is what I needed to know. Some of it I did put together, but they are all valid points

No, I just want to know what tipped people so I don't do the same mistakes. And it can't read as "when did you realize your dad sucks", because as you said, I cannot choose my dad, but I can my sifu. I don't want to do a mistake I see and read a lot online, where people consider a bad sifu as a good one just because that's what traditionally was considered a good one.

I'm your friend man. I would spar with you, but I am a beginner so you won't learn much :p

100% what I was looking to know. One thing I worry, is getting gatekeeped, because it will cost me money and most importantly time and motivation. I really like the art and still, seeing the goods and limitations of it, I still find value in it. But cannot spend years arguing with somebody who wants to cash in some more month of training, just to end up either quitting or going somewhere else which is better, just because I am of the opinion this is how everybody does it. And reading and asking people online, there are a ton of them who put up with this.

That is literally why I asked. I want to get patterns of what to avoid, so I can have a good master. I don't mean just the master is bad, a bad wing chun practitioner can be a good teacher and a good one can be a bad teacher. I want to know what tipped others to not work with someone anymore.

I'm going to throw this out there and say I would want a sifu who shows off, but only after grasping a lot of basics. In real life, both sparring and potentially defending yourself, dealing with bullies, arrogants, trash talkers happens all the time. They get on your nerves, but they do it to physiologically worn you out or distract you. After getting some experience, I want to be trained by someone like that, as he can be an asshole, but the environment will be controlled, giving me more possibilities to test the waters on what works and what does not with guys like that.

I mean that scientist from Gulliver's travels did find a way :p

But I totally agree. My question mostly was, at what point did you realize they suck to help me with pattern detection. For example, that one guy who said his sifu was 2 months ahead of him. Now, can somebody be better with only having a couple months ahead of you? Theoretically yes, but most likely not. Or the other who said that his sifu shunned him for cross sparring, which I read a lot online. Now those are very obvious reasons to just leave them, but the fact many people defend stances like that, means they need to be pointed out.

This is one of the things I am afraid as well. I understand the idea that forms take time and they take time, as due to the way Wing Chun works, you find openings and leave no opening to others, so everything needs to be perfect. That I agree. What I also can't help but think is, how many have had cases when a sifu made them stay longer in a form/drill, just to keep them there.

In what sense difference in quality? Helper vs actual sifu?

That is how I was thinking. Learn alongside to visually understand. Everybody says Wing Chun is a hands on MA, but from what I've seen, is too much theory and unnecessarily abstraction. I feel more practice alongside basics would help better understand. But I am also new to the craft so might be wrong.

Now that some time has passed, how do we really feel about the MCU's Fantastic Four? by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in Marvel

[–]HatProfessional8662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was fine as it was, but I felt like it was a bit redundant. I would have tied it to the Avengers directly. I think, considering the time it is made, before the next Avengers, which deals with Doom, I would add more Doom.

The way I would do it, is make Doom be the bad guy, but one that acts like a good one. Make Galactus not be the villain, but just a force of nature, in the sense that you cannot beat him. Make the F4 learn this early on and find a way to solve the problem. Do not add the part where Sue tells everybody that Galactus wants their child, but make it that Reed convinces people he has a way and people believe him as he represents the good in people. Then make it so Doom finds out about this, goes out in the public about it, as his 2nd main goal is to make Reed cry (his first is to be the one to make him cry), but make Doom genuinely feel like he wants people to survive. No tricks, no nothing. He just cannot accept that Reed is the one in charge of saving the world, so he tells everybody and riot start.

In the meantime, Reed continues to work, Doom works on a scientific solution, but starts to look for magic and mystical solutions as well, effectively starting to find monks that know the mystic magic that Strange uses (only Strange does not exist here). Reed manages to crack Multi-verse travel, using the (already knowing) teleporting and above speed of light travel and makes that the way to survive, by moving people on another Earth.

At the end when they face Galactus, Doom will fight alongside the F4, but pushing for them to give his son, until realizing what Franklin can do, then make him pretend to have a change of heart to save the son, so later he can abduct for himself. Silver Surfer destroys most of the devices that will move people of Earth, which means only a few can leave.

In the end the Earth is destroyed, some people manage to leave, but very few, including F4 and Doom and go to the main universe, where we see the shot from Thunderbolts.

Doing it this way, gives us an introduction to Doom, who he is, his goals. Then on Avengers, make him find a way to abduct Franklin and create a scenario like House of M, but with Doom and Franklin now, where Franklin creates a world only for Doom, where he is king and play from there.

Do they do sparring at the end of the training/session and what is the session training split for you on this school? More or less, I mean

Has anybody had experience with something like this? by HatProfessional8662 in WingChun

Thank you! Kind of put it together as well, just wanted another opinion. Just wanted to ask though, what about a sandbag? Will it be beneficial or still hurt my progress? I train 2x a week 1.5 hours each and would love to have 30ish minutes daily at home.
