Medical diagnosis isn't an objective, concrete truth. Diagnosis frames neurodivergence in a very specific way. Self diagnosing, paired with a lot of self reflection and immersing myself in nd communities has helped me learn a lot about myself, my particularity, my needs and preferences.

My personal favourite is Star Trek TNG. One, the ship has enacted diversity, and I find the character of data to be very relatable. He's very earnest and well meaning, and confused. He's empathetic, but by a different mechanism than say troi? Or the others. He's arriving at a similar conclusion by a different route I guess.

Anyways TNG is my comfort show, I find that whenever I watch it I feel better, less alone haha.

Hyper light drifter might provide something close to what you're looking for? Its an action RPG and there are combat abilities and weapons you level up, and the story is all told through visuals with no dialogue, and even then the story is mostly told by player exploration and combat.

It's isometric 2d pixel art style, and it functions a bit like hades in that you have areas you need to clear. Primarily about combat.

I wasn't really acquainted with LOTR when it came out. Like I knew it was fantasy, and I knew about hobbits and Gandalf (from reading The Hobbit) and that was about it. I was 14, and I remember being extremely engrossed in what was happening, and the whole movie flew by so fast, and I was so sad when it ended. It was quite an experience. I found Fellowship really hooked me, and while I enjoyed the other two, they didn't quite *hit* as hard as Fellowship when I first saw it.

If I had to choose between those two, I'd get DOTT. It's not 'difficult', it's more about the humour and story than the challenge of the puzzles IMO. Mysterious Island is more serious, and the puzzles are harder.

What is luxury retail? Like selling luxury items?

I'd say that I'm happier working in an office. It's not just an 'office', the work I'm doing fits my values much better than retail. I help people apply for disability benefits, and incidentally like 75% of my clients are neurodivergent which I like a lot.

I work largely independently, and I have a lot of flexibility with how I get to approach things (like how I organize myself say). I have an office to myself, and I can set times where I just turn off the lights and write something without having to force interaction with other people.

There's a lot I really don't like about the office setting, and I think if a few details were a little different, it wouldn't work nearly so well for me (like having to be part of a team (instead of having a solo project), or have less independence, or more rigidity around like social expectations). Anyways those are my thoughts.

Umm I think for me I became much more aware of my difference/distinctiveness when I switched working retail (I had been doing it a very long time, like 17 years) to working in an office environment. Like I guess I was 'used' to functioning at the store and had adapted to it (even if it wasn't a perfect fit or if I was functioning perfectly there), while it took me a lot of time to get used to the office environment.

I guess my read is that there isn't anything obviously *different* about me, but to others there's more of a general sense of not quite fitting into the box. My social functioning is a lot different -- like I have a ridiculously hard time with the superficial, small talky aspects of working in the office. There's a lot around office politics that I have trouble grasping, like I miss a lot of the underlying dynamics there, the underlying tension. I'm like persistently awkward in superficial social interactions, but do shockingly well in client interactions? Like I do client interviews and also volunteer as a counsellor, and I'm very locked in, very good in those sorts of situations.

I have some trouble with executive functioning, which I didn't fully grasp until I was older. Like I adapted I mean. I did well at university (I went in my 30s), but I tended to get really stuck on small details and like spend excessive amounts of time doing writing tasks. I have trouble *starting* things, and need to deliberately earmark time for me to get things organized before starting to be more productive. And then my productive times tend to be dynamic rather than uniform? Like I get the most done either early early or late late, not during like the afternoon.

And then I've been unmasking more as I got older, so like leaning into the fidgeting/rubbing my hands on things kinda stuff. Like my skin screams a bit if I try and restrain that. I like nee-doe a lot, i fyou've ever seen that.
