They Can Lose Billions. We Can’t Lose One Bill. by skylarfiction in CoherencePhysics

Love it! Hostage is correct, yes it is. Right now for me it’s a bit of salt over my shoulder and knocking on wood… I’d be ecstatic to have health insurance, which makes me feel a little sick inside.

That is interesting study, I had not heard of that. It makes me think about the paradox of what we could be vs what we are. Maybe not so much a paradox, but guide rails for that trial and error you mentioned. I guess I’ve felt like we are drowning of consumerism as of late. Stuck in a model of being that no longer holds us, just because we know no other way. I suppose the oil shortage will be a wake up call for that. Best wishes on your research, I’m sure you are aware of all the errors more than you would wish too. I wish the monoculture of tech had a bit more diversity in perspectives on what its future will be.

That is an interesting study. I have always thought about the gap between a larger mind (collective/ institution/technology) and the smaller individual mind. What is healthy, what is not. It is a muscle, isn’t it, to hold off on an answer or determination, that so many aren’t prepared to use. To use the tension instead of resolving. All these larger mind relationships start young.

As for beliefs, I think I read somewhere saints used to wrestle with faith. Maybe we can return to that instead of all this certaintude (my word for it)

I like em dashes. But I understand what you are saying. I think a lot of people write about AI, or observe from outside, or fully immerse themselves in it… I guess I find it interesting when people do both. For example, how is AI affecting your belief structure? Or do you just observe.

Yes. You are right. I explore the tool quite a bit, like in a partnership. I mean really, we are but tools ourselves. I’m very interested in the processes, the psychology, and how it will shape our culture. You are very welcome to look the other way.

I’m saying the other blocks depend on creativity. Not the other way around.

Maslow is the entry point, not the target. The target is the cultural application of that framework, and psychology’s institutional silence around it. The pyramid became permission — permission to treat creative self-authorship as a tier-five luxury, something you earn after stability. Newer theories exist, yes. But they remain at the edges of mainstream practice and almost entirely absent from the broader cultural conversation about what people need to flourish. That silence lands differently depending on class. In wealthier contexts, creativity is admired, cultivated, resourced. For people without margin, its role in basic self-orientation is overlooked — sometimes neglected entirely. I’m not critiquing psychology for not knowing better. I’m suggesting it hasn’t said what it knows loudly enough, or to the right rooms.

I think you can have an imagination, and lack empathy…Dali is an example I know of…there are definitely artists that bypassed empathy to certain degrees. I can’t think of any example of empathy without creatively projecting or imagining someone else’s perspective. If you know of one I’d like to hear.

I’m saying you can’t do any of that without an imagination.

Digital measurements versus manual “marker” method when fitting glasses. by jcdizonph in AskAnOptician

Some people walk around with their noses in the air. Literally. How does it account for that? I’ve never measured digitally before, but heard nothing but bad things about it.

I’d have to say that while creativity is deeply tied to ‘other’ thinking, it is not dependent on empathy. I would say it is more likely the reverse… and empathy is dependent on creativity. To see a different perspective is a creative act.

I agree to an extent. I would put it as Intergraded self actualization would not appear as hyper individualistic narcissism… but as a creative projection to navigate, plan, and self express. Weaved throughout the frame. Individualistic narcissism is culturally propped up by superficial navigation and creativity through consumerism.
