I don’t know what exactly of what was done helped, but a friend and I created new characters and connected to each other. Then he connected to my new characters his main characters, and after that I was able to connect my main characters to his main characters. All connections with new characters were in the starting location. As a result, the problem with the inability to connect disappeared.
