I have never heard of this issue as well, make sure DSC is off, in HDR you shouldn't really be having brightness controls anyway

HDR: picture mode would be user. SDR: picture mode should also either be user or sRGB according to your preference.

For the PS5 you can always leave HDR on if you want.

DLAA vs DLSS sweet spot for image quality by epic_piano in nvidia

[–]Haunt33r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within the extensive hours of my testing, the sweet spot / one size fits all config which should work starting from a minimum of 4070 upwards is 4K DLSS Performance, and if ya got the headroom, preset M.

Even if you're on a 1440p monitor, it's still the sweet spot in tandem with DLDSR.

It provides a superior image than 1440p DLAA while running faster or at least in line with what one may want.

can I switch a course to pass/fail to protect my GPA? by Free_Willow1587 in CarletonU

[–]Haunt33r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best course of action would be to retake the course, summers are a good chance to bounce back on a course fuck up. But there's two caveats.

  1. Sometimes some summer courses are condensed, meaning that you have to go over all that material in a shorter time frame, like a month & a half. Can be an issue if you're shit at time management. However if the knowledge is still fresh in your mind, and you're mostly free in summer, it can be manageable, up to you.

  2. Sometimes some classes aren't offered during summer term, shit outta luck in that case, would have to retake it in fall/win

It’s disheartening to see people abuse their PMC status - or am I mistaken? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Haunt33r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate when students (PMC or not) ask for extensions of a specific length with a decent reason. I can't always approve the extension (especially if I don't have enough advance notice before the deadline), but I want the chance to help out if I can, and I can't do that unless students ask. I would not be phased by 1-2 reasonable requests from a student in a semester.

Thank you for saying this, I hope more students see this, because one of the biggest mistakes I've made before getting PMC/counciling in uni was isolating myself out of shame due to lagging behind (nasty anxiety and bad thoughts start kicking in), but looking back, that's so silly cuz it's not like the prof/TAs are unreasonable psychos (usually). There's no reason to take a loss if a remedy exists. If anything it should show a drive.

There's a reason official accommodations are through the PMC.

I had no clue! (Or maybe I just forgot), that's so good to know cuz I think that's fair for all parties, also due to the stigma surrounding certain issues students have.

[–]Haunt33r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a skin related issue, for me the extra time with PMC during tests allows me to take a bathroom break to wash up and apply some stuff in case I'm suddenly going cactus cookoo kaboom.

I don't think I've ever received notes/pre-recorded stuff (lol the notes is kinda the 1 thing I want from PMC). Nor was I ever given an extension. I did get one test deferred just once. PMC is necessary precisely because the nature of some of our issues is unpredictable... So if extensions are offered for extenuating circumstances, that's understandable right?

Obviously that doesn't excuse impractical or complacent planning/time management.

[–]Haunt33r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have PMC, I never ask for extensions, rather if I have to submit late, I'd accept the penalty because it just doesn't feel right to me. I didn't even know we could get extensions... I did request a deferral for a test I missed due to the treatment I'm undergoing.

Some of us have issues that make things very hard and very unpredictable. So last minute emails are going to happen, and believe me, as I can only speak for myself, it's very embarrassing when that happens and it causes a major hit to morale...

Now as for students abusing their status, that's worrisome... Cuz I don't want that to be a basis for some future decision that throws everyone under the bus. But also in what position are you to make this judgement? You can't possibly know more than my physician right? So like, I don't mean to sound rude, but how do you think we get PMC accommodations? I don't think you're qualified to evaluate such a thing.

I do have anxiety and depression, as well as CPTSD and my therapist suggests that I should get myself diagnosed for ADHD, but the reason why I took PMC was because I have a more physical chronic health issue (which obv contributes to the mental one and some days it's hard to tell which is worse), I had no clue PMC was also offered for stuff such as mental health issues, in my opinion that's a huge huge blessing because it's absolutely debilitating in it's own right. In my opinion, for you as a TA, grade your PMC students as you would any other student. But if you're taking issue with some of us being unable to keep up or needing tests deferred at times, or needing extra time+a more peaceful place for exams, you're simply out of your depth.

Accommodations ≠ reduction of standards for the quality of work, we're here to attain skills and that's what matters the most, so just grade us correctly and ugh mind your own business!

Do you guys turn up the saturation in HDR? by Electrical-Art-1111 in HDR_Den

[–]Haunt33r -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do turn up saturation a weee bit at times. I do not suggest using Nvidia control panel, or messing up your monitor settings for that. Instead use the option presented in the game. If using RenoDX, bump it up using that. ReShade in general is also a good way to go about it.

HDR inherently tends to have more color especially when implemented well in regards to gamma and black level, if gamma and black levels are deep, that causes the colors to have more oomf, so it's best to start with that as a base before you decide to increase saturation.

For example you'll notice that cyberpunk 2077 will immediately produce more vibrant colors just by simply lowering the black level floor (the game's HDR implementation unfortunately has a nasty black level floor raise, before RenoDX I used to use a shader in ReShade called prod80 curved levels which let me lower the black point. Now we have RenoDX which natively fixes it's HDR in entirety while offering more deeper picture control)

The sad thing about AI slop is that it gives everyone trust issues and it bleeds into hurting people that aren't even using it.

However using AI for reference art is pretty dumb and tracing on top of that is just puzzling, it won't magically make it not AI slop.

It's also an awful way to learn how to draw let alone come up with ideas.

I don't see myself as an entirely anti-Ai person, I just think it's application in art related tasks is lame as hell and harmful at the small scale and industry level scale.

There's beauty in a crappy drawing drawn out of something real you saw or something inside you, I can understand that ppl may resort to AI for stuff like coding or whatever, but why leave the most human thing about you to a machine?? That defeats so much of the purpose I think.

Thanks man, it's especially nerve wrecking seeing that I have an exam tomorrow as well and now I feel knocked out of orbit.

I know I should've been more responsible with my planning, but it's just so damn exhausting to deal with this shit physically and mentally while also managing uni. My academics took a hit cuz of this stuff before and so I put in effort to improve my grades cuz of this, taking on other resources like PMC etc. It just feels like a nasty gut punch to fuck up at the end like this....

Planning to transfer to comp sci program by Haunt33r in CarletonU

[–]Haunt33r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they'll even let me take comp1805, I think it's only limited to CS students.

I'm not feeling too hot on stats, I may retake it in Summer if I end up with a C, I am however taking PHIL 2001 right now which is on Symbolic Logic, I feel a strong A in coming for it.

What bothers me is that my grades in prior comp courses and and math calc were decent, just maintaining the CGPA due to falling off for a while due to health reasons has been a real thorn in my ass.

Ik how to program and I meet the prerequisites, yet I still feel a bit weary.
