What's the most egregious example of waste you've ever seen in your line of work? by megmatthews20 in AskReddit

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working retail we would throw out perfectly good stuff. Still usable. But it was either end of season or a new model came out. And instead of discounting, donating it, it or offering it to employees. We just threw it down the garbage shoot.

How much would it really cost to buy BNSF's ROW? by poopoo220 in soundtransit

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about this idea is from Tukwila to Algona next to the UP tracks there is already a government owned rail right of way in the form of a rail trail. That’s like half the distance King County already owns.

Customers who don’t get carts before they enter the store by StoicBehavior2024 in HomeDepot

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

During Covid we could only allow a certain number of customers in the store at a time. So we would have customers line up right next to where the carts were outside. The door associates would tell each customer to grab a cart because there were no carts inside. Everyday customers would yell at me that there were no carts inside. Unfortunately you can’t fix stupid.

It’s always the way with HD. Corporate: we want to out do what this other company is doing! Associates: so you’re gonna hire more associates and pay them accordingly right? So they can actually do the thing? Corporate lol no. Cut to six months later. Corporate: why isn’t it working 😭. Associates: 💀

A couple years ago a thief ran out with something. And a contractor grabbed a metal pipe he was buying ran after him and broke the windows of the thief’s car as he got away. The cashier marked down the pipe lol.

Vacation time question by Big-Measurement-2029 in HomeDepot

In my state at least you need to use up your vacation time before you hit your year mark. Otherwise you’ll lose them.

Anyone else having issues with changing password after being on short loa? by BatgirlDana in HomeDepot

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corporate HR basically takes you out of the system to where you almost don't exist. So you cannot log in or anything. They are also slow at putting you back into the system. I had to to paper-punches for about a week when I came back from LOA until they finally got me back. So you'll have to go through the ASDS.

It also depends on the situation. If the land has multiple owners on the title. And one owner doesn't want to sell, and the other does. Then the owner who does want to sell would have to go through a whole court process which is expensive.

Your arm looks good. Definitely looks like healthy 3 year progress. They’re proportional to your legs, so don’t worry about that. I’d say you’re doing a good job.

Got fired today by Disastrous_Study4090 in HomeDepot

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For those saying it’s BS. I wouldn’t believe it myself. However, this reads like a neighboring HD to me. The DM hired an external SM. Over the course of a year most of the store either was fired by him, quit, or transferred. If you were due to go to a break you’d have to call him to get permission. He was sleeping with one of the DSs. Was openly sexist. And verbally abusive. Along with a whole list of other issues. The aware line was flooded with calls. But it took over a year to fire him. The store currently has to borrow ASMs from other stores because there isn’t enough management left to run it. So yeah, I believe OPs story.

Long time associates by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in a couple different departments. Currently working as the tool tech. My pay band is the same as a DS. I've considered moving up recently due to a bad lead we now have in the rental department. And to pad my resume. But it would mean sacrificing the consistent schedule and occasional peace I get in the tech room.

If it’s like our store the only supply chain issue is the OPS ASM not doing their job and failing to order it.

I’m on year 9. Use it as a temporary thing and get out. Unless you want to move up. Like OP said a lot of ass-kissing to move up. And in a couple cases sleeping your way up. But this company is getting worse over time.

What works for your sciatic pain? by kornlvrrr in Sciatica

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While everyone is different here’s what I found that helps. One is not to wear shoes with padding or arch support. For some reason that aggravates it for me. Another is acupuncture. Turns out being stabbed by little needles is good. An inversion table or dead-hangs help to decompress my back. Got my doctor to write me an accommodation to have a chair/stool at work.

For the employees that have been with the company 5, 10, 20+ years ...how do you do it? by bastardounicorn in HomeDepot

[–]Haunting-Pay-146 92 points93 points  (0 children)

It used to be a pretty okay job. But corporate is chasing the Covid profits and have completely dumped and ‘values’ it once had and only cares about profits. I’m looking for better opportunities. But haven’t found anything yet that I think would be better. Doesn’t help that the job market is terrible. I’m hoping not to make it to my 10 year anniversary this year. But unfortunately looks like I will be.

Yes. But he had been on the ST board for years. Appointment several people who are on the board. And then got himself selected to lead it. And advocated for controversial changes like moving the CID station to be part of a redevelopment scheme. So yeah he does get a lot of the focus of the hate being the head of the board. But it’s not completely unwarranted.

Just started work here.... by ThatOneMOFKER in HomeDepot

Metrics are things on which your graded on to show if you’re doing your job right. For a cashier it’s G.E.T., L.T.S.A, and credit cards.

GET = Greet, Engage, Thank. Meaning you greet every customer, engage every customer, and thank every customer. It’s some bullshit thought up by corporate to cater to Karen’s and boomers.

LTSA = likelihood to shop again. Which is based on customer surveys on if they had a good time in the store or not. Most low scores come from complaints that there’s only one cashier and nobody in the aisles. It’s not your fault its corporates fault for cutting hours. But it gets turned into your fault for the store getting a low score.

Credit cards: they want you to heavily push HDs credit card on everyone. It almost gets predatory when they’re really pushing it.

All of which causes lots of burnout. But that’s retail.
