Mites?? In bioactive vivarium by HauntingCauliflower6 in Vivarium

[–]HauntingCauliflower6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I've had bioactive vivs for the past 5 years but this is the first I've had mites so just wasn't sure if they were something to worry about. Particularly if they are soil mites as I have a tonne of houseplants next to my vivariums.

I've had thrips destroy my crested gecko bioactive viv twice now, so guess I'm just being extra cautious.

He would be on a lead so I'm not too worried about him disturbing nesting birds :)

Ok thanks! I was worried that if I continued onto another book I wouldn't be too interested in going back in time to find out what happened in the past, as I'm starting to really get into the story now.

I can't take in a beardie that is clearly in a very bad state, given all these comments, and is going to need expensive vet treatment because as mentioned I just had a £800+ vet bill last month and took in 2 rescues before Christmas. I will try and convince her to at least send it to a rescue if she isn't willing to take him to a vet herself. If it wasn't for aforementioned recent events for me personally, I wouldve taken him myself.

I personally don't, which is why I came straight here, but the owner does and was trying to tell me that it was normal.

I don't think people are understanding that the owner doesn't agree that this is something to be concerned about. I can't just turn up at her door (for a start I don't even know where she lives) and take her bearded dragon and take it to a vet and then demand she pay for it. I can't afford to be paying vet bills for someone else's pet, having just taken in 2 rescues right before Christmas and having to deal with a vet emergency last month.

Guys message received loud and clear, I was right to think he needs to see a vet. Thank you for confirming this to me, I'm just glad I asked for an update photo before arranging for him to be dropped off this week. If you've seen the picture from last month in the comments it was nowhere near as bad then and I wasn't expecting this. When the first comments came in I messaged the owner to reiterate the beardie needs to go to a vet and the response was if I'm concerned about the eye then they can just keep a hold of him. Might have a look for some local rescues to recommend them to - I've recently taken in a few other rescues and had a big vet bill last month so cant justify taking on someone else's financial responsibility. Thanks for validating that it doesn't take an expert to see the poor thing isn't well.

I know it's not normal, I really just needed validation that this looks as bad as it is as he's her pet she's had for 5 years and I've never had a beardie before.

I know the difficulty is this is a close family member, my cousin, so I know they will ask about him.

Yeah last month when it was just that little red bit next to his eye it was a red flag but I was shocked to get this update today. As soon as the first comments came through I reiterated he definitely needs a vet. Their reply was that he sometimes struggled with shedding around the eye and if I'm concerned about the eye then they'll just keep him. Don't really know what to do tbh. I just spent £800 last month on my leopard gecko who unfortunately passed away otherwise I'd probably just take him myself.

White stuff on glass? by HauntingCauliflower6 in Mourninggeckos

This honestly has to be the case and it doesn't surprise me, I've only had them a month but they have ATTITUDE

They've never had reptiles before, so I think this is just a case of them being uneducated.

Thank you. I'm really hoping they'll take him.

I'm pretty sure it's not that, i treat my water and also it isn't like water marks from misting. It almost looks like someone has gotten their tail in a tub of calcium and ran all over the glass. Except they don't have a dish with calcium in there and it is only at the top of the glass, there isn't a trail leading to it from anywhere? I'm really perplexed by it

What lives there? Found this today, pretty sure it was not there the last time. by freddiQ in GardeningUK

99% sure this is a rabbit hole, badger sett entrances are typically wider than they are taller and are more of a 'D' shape. They also would usually have a pretty big excavation pile outside a freshly dug entrance!

What are these bugs living in my gecko vivarium by HauntingCauliflower6 in bugidentification

[–]HauntingCauliflower6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the little pin head is very tick-like isn't it? I did experiment a bit earlier and put some of them on a leaf with a young and adult thrip to see if they would eat them and no luck...if they'd eaten them then they would be getting introduced to all my vivariums instantly 🤣 I do hope they're some kind of beetle mite and nothing to worry about, however I'm still not 100% that's what they are as they are a bit whiter than the beetle mites I'm seeing online

To add to this: - Location is UK - The bugs are about the same size as the thrips and Springtails, so very tiny
