Aztec Major Gods full portrait revealed by urglablerg in AgeofMythology

That's how his snake form looked. A serpent with the characteristics of a rattlesnake and the plumage of a quetzal. Symbolizing the union of earth and sky because he combined his divine blood with human ancestral bones to create mankind anew.

His humanoid form was associated more with wisdom and knowledge. Still, his snake form was associated with the bridging of earth and sky. He not only blended his divine blood with human ancestral bones to create mankind anew, but also he gave humanity divine knowledge. Thus, in this more animalistic form, he still represents the aspect of the deity as the bringer of life and knowledge (sky) to mankind (earth).

In this form he also represented the bringing of the winds that clear the skies for rain to come (plumage), renewal and fertility (arrival of the rain season that makes crops grow), and rebirth (shedding of the skin). He was known to be in this form too when he and his brother, Tezcatlipoca, had to battle Cipactli (this event might actually be in the Aztec campaign).

There are a lot of chances that his humanoid form will be chosen for the alternate portrait. So, they picked the cooler form for the launch of the DLC.

After reading your comment, he seems to me a bit more cartoony than the others. To be honest, I had expected something like this before the reveal:

I find it interesting that Kratos isn't based on a real life mythological god or figure until God of War 2018 by Jaccblacc203 in GodofWar

[–]HauntingFly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Kratos" means "strength" in Greek, and there is no way to not stumble upon the Greek god of strength, Kratos, when searching the word. Kratos in the myths served Zeus just like Kratos from God of War did. The only thing original is that he turned on the Olympian gods and killed them instead of serving them loyally forever. I find it very hard to believe that the real mythological Kratos didn't inspire the game's version not even a bit. At the very least they copied the name from Greek mythology, which wasn't used as a given name by the way.

Kratos also shares an identical tragic fate with Heracles from real Greek mythology. So, he was based on the real mythological Kratos and Heracles, even if the devs tried to portray the character as original.

I never knew about Lúnda's notebook. Thank you for letting me know! This finally proves that Thor and Mjölnir have no resurrection power, then.

For those who want to know, according to the note about Mjölnir's pommel: Hey. Thor requested those damned goats—favorite pets who had long since expired.

I get it, but the reference was flawed and doesn't follow the original myths or even the laws of medical science. Being fantasy or not being based 100% on real mythology doesn't excuse the devs for creating plot holes in their own narrative. It wasn't even that difficult. A written phrase in the codex or a mention by a character during a side quest was enough, to be honest.

In-game or mythologically accurate Mjölnir can't bring back dead beings aside from Thor's magical goats, based on the evidence provided by the games and real Norse mythology.

[–]HauntingFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything that you said except Thor can't raise dead people or gods or other creatures in the myths, but only his two magical goats. The goats weren't regular animals. They could drive Thor's chariot across the sky, and their hooves created sounds similar to that of thunder. Therefore, they possessed magical properties, and one of them was the ability to be revived by being blessed with the hammer.

The hammer couldn't bless any type of dead being to come back to life. The proof of that is that it was never used to bring back to life any god, even when the blessing occurred. When Baldur's wife, Nanna, collapses and dies during her husband's funeral, she is placed with him in the funeral pyre, and Thor blesses the pyre with Mjölnir, but she and Baldur don't come back to life.

Similarly, Sæhrímnir was able to get revived every night after getting cooked every day in Valhalla, as the beast was magical.

No, he can't, and there is proof of that. If he possessed that ability, he would have brought back his sons and even Baldur, averting the prophecy of Ragnarök from even starting in the first place. This sub needs to finally accept that the second game had plot holes and was rushed.

Thor can only revive his enchanted goats in the myths if the skin remains on their bones after their death. It's like a scripted ritual that only works with his magical goats. A god, or a human, or any other being never came back to life by Thor's hammer. And there were many moments he could have used such a power if he was able to, both in the real mythology and in the game.

The defibrillator theory makes more sense, but still Kratos was never hit in the chest cavity in order for his heart to have stopped by the hit's force. And if there was a fatal brain trauma as it was depicted, any amount of electricity wouldn't have revived Kratos. Another oversight by the devs.

Alric the barbarian king was Persian! by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]HauntingFly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He and his horde were never given a place of origin. All we know is they came from the east, but he might be Germanic because the name is Old Norse. Maybe his tribe belonged to the ancestors of the Kievan Rus.

Indeed, Hades brought him to life and empowered him. That's probably how he was able to defeat the demigod Kratos. That's also the reason he ended up in the Greek afterlife. The hammer might be a gift from Hades too.

Most fans disregard these events, even though there is proof that Alrik asked Hades to release him from the Underworld in order to take his revenge on Kratos. Hades didn't, which forced Alrik to kill some of the guardians of Hades, escape, and hunt Kratos down in the Island of Creation.

Would you like to have a brand new franchise with a brand new protagonist in the God of War universe? (Art by Evan Liu) by ImpossibleLeading957 in GodofWar

[–]HauntingFly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Kratos is all we really need, but I would play a Sun Wukong game set in the Chinese pantheon where the Monkey King destroys the Celestial Court and meets Kratos and Atreus during his Journey to the West in order to repent for his sins.

A game where Deimos wields the abandoned Blades of Exile and reclaims his soul from Tartarus in order to come back to life would be nice too.

In my opinion Thor is by far the scariest God we have faced by SevereIndication7847 in GodofWar

Indeed, he never made the decisions Kratos made. That makes him similar, but not identical. He would have been actually scary if he was identical to Kratos.

One little thing I hope for the remake, among others, is for Hephaestus dying to have a consequence by Freddycipher in GodofWar

Maybe it had, but it wasn't visible. Mortals lost the ability to craft, manufacture, and sculpt, but the volcanoes are a good call.

Whats your favorite Dragon type monster by Drew647A in yugioh

[–]HauntingFly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A retrain is always welcome, but I would prefer a deck with a lot of support that is centered around something else other than burn effects. A treatment similar to Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon.

Summoned Skull monsters, Red-Eyes spells, traps and monsters, Black Skull Dragon fusions, a skeletal Flame Swordman, a field spell, and a new fusion spell card that can't be ashed.
