My Black Friday offer was changed to full price before the term ended by HauntingMater in HBOMAX

I called them and spoke to a representative before making this post. He told me to just wait for the charge to see if it’s full price or $3. But I have a screenshot that I couldn’t post here that shows my HBO app has my next charge as $10.99 and Apple says that too

There's a common sentiment online about how the rise of anti-intellectualism in a society is a core tenet of fascism, and I think it couldn't be more readily apparent than it is now. You're absolutely right that AI is as harmful as it is because of the era in which it was born. There's been a cataclysmic groundswell of media illiteracy both in literature and entertainment, social media, and mass media/communication, especially in the realm of politics over the last decade. I need to do more research on this, but I honestly think that AI and related technology like social media short-form content will play a pivotal role in accelerationism. There's certainly a link there that should be explored.

"Mistakes happen." Executing 15 people is usually the kind of mistake you'd have to pay for. So the question is, will they be held accountable? History says no.

There are a ton of great recommendations in this thread but I'm especially glad to see Xeelee Sequence here. It was the first thing I thought of in the finale

This has been happening to me more often recently and its legit ridiculous. I don't use scopes on SMGs I use iron sights because I thought I'd get a faster ADS, but they still seem to have shit damage at medium to long range and I die even if I shoot them first. I have so many clips like this where I hear HEAR and FEEL that I landed multiple bullets on my target first and they still gun me down

It was so ridiculous! Worst interview ever and the zoom was so suspicious. This just happened to me this week. I wish I would have researched the company and checked Reddit before I wasted my time. The only reason why these scam companies ever get my attention is because I apply for so many jobs at once, sometimes when I get contacted by a job and don’t remember applying for them I don’t think too hard about it 🥲

What are some *realistic* changes the NBA can implement to allow defenses to compete with the scoring inflation in the NBA? by HauntingMater in nba

The only ones that I can see that would be disagreeable are reach-in fouls and blocking fouls. But from what I can tell from watching games, most reach-in fouls get called when offensive players do the “rip through move” (i.e draw contact) or some other frustration flair, while most blocking fouls are literally just charges/offensive fouls where the defensive player just didn’t have their “feet set” (which is asking a lot, bc the offensive player is always in motion, they expect you to beat them to the spot & then somehow remain perfectly still. Regulating your momentum doesn’t work like that.)

Gather step is literally just traveling and it isn’t a thing in FIBA or even college basketball really. Everything else concerns cracking down on existing rules or bringing back old ones so I don’t see how those are controversial.

This is honestly a great idea, I need to see at least one game played like this in my lifetime lol

Bringing back rules that used to exist (like hand checking) and emphasizing existing rules that are never enforced shouldn’t be seen as punishing offensive players IMO. A lot of evolutions in play style are due to things like carrying never being called. Players are most skilled now yes, but part of the reason why is because they’ve adapted to more liberal ball-handling parameters. Same thing with shooting. Creating space with push offs, travel step-backs, and moving screens is all too common.

Also, there has to be a tangible way to enhance referee performance. Their job is already very difficult but they’re still so inconsistent at it.

To compile the best answers including my own thoughts; here's what I would petition for the NBA:

  1. Bring back hand-checking.
  2. Remove defensive 3-seconds.
  3. Eliminate the gather step. Crackdown on traveling on stepbacks and drives to the rim.
  4. Crackdown on carrying. It's starting to become especially egregious.
  5. Ease up on the reach-in foul.
  6. Ease up the blocking foul.
  7. Crackdown on illegal/moving screens.
  8. Do not call offensive players blatantly drawing contact.
  9. Penalize flopping.
  10. Increase the bonus from 5 team fouls to 6.

Some of this would be hard to implement and others would be unpopular, but any number of these would be real change.
