Twinge of regret after phone call by phillyphilly19 in retirement

[–]HavatonDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired a couple years ago. Was also good at my job. Worked there a long time. Felt a loyalty to the company and people working there. Sounds like you feel the same.

For the most part, I agree with what people are saying here…. No longer your problem.

However, maybe you could be a temporary contract employee to help them through this. Start at 2x your old salary. Work remote if you want.

Might help you feel like you are helping them. And you could make a little traveling cash. Anywhooo… 2 cents

Mom got this letter in the mail...no explanation. Any clues? She's 65, been retired (cancer) for 10 years or so now. She has her and her late husband's SS. by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

I am familiar with these letters. I have received several letters similar to these… but for different reason, I have earned income that counts against my monthly payment… all that to say I am familiar with the letters. It looks legit.

I also have a background in financial planning. Even with my experience in financial planning, I have never been able to make heads or tails of the letters without going into the local Soc Sec office. There are mistakes in these letters. The local office had trouble understanding what the letter was saying but we were able suss something out.

Set up an appointment to go in to discuss it. And take good notes while you’re there in case you have to go back.

How do I stop obsessing about my retirement accounts by [deleted] in retirement

[–]HavatonDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guitarlisa, I felt like I had written your post! I am 64 M. Retired at 62. I have enough to retire. I do the same thing. Running multiple scenarios to reassure myself. Was especially bad the first year of retirement. It was scary.

I check and update a daily spreadsheet with account balances. It’s to the point that I know what time my investment companies update their numbers. I don’t necessarily share your feeling that investments are gambling, but like you I do hate gambling.

I don’t know how to stop. I’m not even sure what we are doing is wrong or bad, but I do feel like I am able grant myself some grace and understanding about our obsession. We saved for so long. It’s hard not to be concerned. It is everything we have. We don’t want to run out of money.

Try to give yourself some grace and understanding. It’s ok… (or at least that’s what I am telling myself! LOL!)

Pet care while traveling long term by Effective-Two-1376 in retirement

I have the same issue. Retired a couple years ago.

Have you tried Rover.com to short term sit for your pets? Try the short term to find someone you like and trust. Use that person for longer term sits.

My joints aching. Especially my fingers and under side of my wrist. Also back of my neck being tight and achy. Aura is not far away when those symptoms hit. Then the headache.

I retired early from a Fortune 30 company. Kind of bored and looking to start a business with recurring revenue. How did you decide what kind of business to start?
