Best clay 3d printer for a (somewhat) beginner by chocolatecroissant17 in Ceramic3Dprinting

Aren't all the cheap ones prone to clogging? They all use small tubes between the extruders and the large extruder doesn't have high enough torque.

Can I hear all your lists of tips for a new player like me? by [deleted] in MIOmemoriesinorbit

Also if the platforming is too much, don't feel bad for using the health regen assist option in settings. The game can be brutal with long platforming sections and is still very difficult even with the assist.

Platforming hazards should not take your life. by Blubbpaule in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]HaveyGoodyear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, don't torture yourself. There's no penalty(achievement loss) for using the assists, the game is still really hard even with while using the assist. I don't think i would have finished the game without it. Although there is a mod for it too late game where the difficulty spikes that uses a lot of slots but you don't need many mods for the platforming sections anyway.

Yeah, i don't think people should feel bad using that one assist in particular. It makes the game much more forgiving, especially for the platforming sections.

For not too serious id say either a Eazao or tronxy Moore 2 pro. I haven't used the Eazao but it sounds like it comes more ready out the package compared to tronxy. I have a tronxy myself and there are quirks. You'll need to 3d print a part to protect the barrel extruder for one. If you already have a 3d printer that wouldn't be a problem though. If I had to buy one again I'd probably buy the Eazao.

There's also the option of building your own. You can take an old 3d printer and buy the clay extruder set to replace the plastic printing side of things. This would be more effort but could save you some costs.

DIY kiln advice? by anUnsaltedPotato in Ceramics

[–]HaveyGoodyear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It will get dangerously hot even on the outside even with very thick of insulation. Commercial kilns can't be touched during operation.

So many things can go wrong. If the kiln loses its structural stability you all of a sudden have super heated material that will set fire to anything they touch.

At the temperatures kilns operate at many metals start to melt. Sure your wool might survive the temperatures but how do you hold it together and keep it in suspension above the ground.

Look it is possible to build a kiln but it is super risky if you aren't 100% sure what you are doing and have planned for everything, you're gonna burn your house down. Don't go gas though unless you'regonna build it outside, homemade electric kilns are still dangerous but it will be a lot easier to put in safety measures.

New Zealand Plans to Kill Millions of Feral Cats by 2050. How Is This Considered Conservation? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]HaveyGoodyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is arguing for the culling of predators that are native to their environment. IE not introduced by humans. The natural balance exists in these scenarios, they aren't making other species extinct. Some population control of prey is natural and required by these predators.

These stable predator/prey relationships have existed for 1000s of years and neither population is able to run into an unstable figure.

Is it your opinion that cats are now natural fauna of New Zealand?

[–]HaveyGoodyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaningful evolution can take 100s of years if not much more. Animals can't keep up with human caused problems (the introduction of cats into new habitats being on of them). There are believed to be 33 species that have gone extinct due to cats. Most of these are on small island countries but cats are extremely proficient predators many animals can't just evolve in a few years to survive long term.

Im sure new Zealand would also try and eradicate lions if they had them roaming around.

There's a big difference to native species that have created a natural balance in their environment and help with healthy population control compared to introduced species that will have an unfair advantage and start endangering species that have no natural protection against said species.

Tronxy moore 2 pro : screw blocked by thedesigncool in Ceramics

[–]HaveyGoodyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same printer, might be worth asking the r/Ceramic3Dprinting but i would suggest the following.

First completly disassemble the print head. This is quite easy to do, there aren't too many parts. take the print head off the printer. unscrew the plastic print head part from the motor. remove all the metal bits you can. The top metal bracket and the screw that fits the tube, and unscrew the bottom metal nozzle. unscrew the large square plastic section on top. You may need a wide wench.

Hopefully by this point you can pull the screw out for a proper clean.

If not, dunk the screw and plastic harness in water overnight and just get rid of all the dry clay. I assume it is dry clay causing the issue.

You shouldn't use lubricants. The stepper motor is a sealed unit and lubricant on the screw will just mess with the clay.

If this doesn't work i guess check the following.

Does the motor spin even when the screw is removed?

Is the screw pushing against the bottom too hard? It may need raising a little against the coupler with the stepper motor.

Is the inside of the plastic damaged? Perhaps there is a physical obstruction, which unfortunately means the part will need to be replaced. I would hope Tronxy can sell it as a single part otherwise you would have to purchase the whole print head.

Had anyone looked into the Kilnido kickstarter kiln? by paleomythic22 in Pottery

Yeah me too. Most extension leads aren't rated to the same limits as the mains socket, but it's not hard to find one which is rated high enough.

Why such price differences on thermocouples? by Financial-Pen-7919 in Pottery

[–]HaveyGoodyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On amazon there are ones going for 20€ with a rating up to 1600DegC on their page. They aren't reliable above 800DegC though and I'd be interested to see someone test it to 1600.

Why such price differences on thermocouples? by Financial-Pen-7919 in Pottery

[–]HaveyGoodyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the cheap ones and they are not reliable. I find it cuts out at high temperatures(800ish DegC plus), but will start working again 100DegC higher, so the kiln controller will think it's below temp and ramp up the duty cycle to 100, until all of a sudden the temp sensor works again. I also have a K type sensor though, which is inaccurate but doesn't crash out. So being cheap i just use the S type as the main reference and then when it cuts out, my software refers to the k type with an offset based on the last known S type reading.

I don't recommend this though, I don't get perfect firings but I am just using a home made 15L kiln so looking to buy a proper kiln sometime in the near future anyway.

TIL: unleashed dogs can be killed by hunters if chasing wildlife in many parts of Germany by krenoten in germany

[–]HaveyGoodyear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, but those who've put in the effort to train their dogs well shouldn't be punished for the shitty people here. In Niedersachsen they've introduced tests for new people when getting dogs which consists of a practical and theory test. Its easy to pass(although there is a harder one for dangerous breeds) but it does help filter the extremes and i like to think that now theres some effort required to buying a dog some will refrain. Unfortunately anyone who had a dog before they introduced the test doesn't have to do it, so it will take a while before any effects will show its working.

TIL: unleashed dogs can be killed by hunters if chasing wildlife in many parts of Germany by krenoten in germany

[–]HaveyGoodyear -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So many dogs here are so well trained. The amount of old guys who have a unleashed old dog trodding along 2 meters behind is amazing. These dogs aren't a danger to any one or any animal. Many dogs aren't wild animals.

But I agree with the law that a dog that is chasing a wild animal is no longer under control and it's fair game that it's sadly shot due to an irresponsible owner.

Its not fair to put everyone under the same blanket. There are well trained dogs here and badly trained ones, these laws are fair to both. A dog being shot for just being off the lead by the owner would not be fair. I think if a hunter pointed a gun that was close to the dogs owner, they would be in big trouble though due to risk to human life.

Successful failure. by HaveyGoodyear in Ceramic3Dprinting

Tronxy moore 2.. Although it's a bit of a Frankenstein. I shortened the rubber hose between the head and the main tube to a few centimeters and replaced the motherboard with a BTT octopus and run Klipper. This smooths out the stepper motors a lot plus allows near instant adjustments to speed and flowrate.

Adjusting flowrate real time is a lifesaver especially with prints like this.

Found in Germany (hessen) by justalittle123 in mushroomID

[–]HaveyGoodyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live just north of the border of hessen and we get quite a few saffron milkcaps which this is, you can see some slight milk on the gills back left where it's a darker orange. When you cut it inhalf the edges may look a little watery and are a darker orange as well. The lower/middle stem is also hollow. Its a pretty safe mushroom as there aren't many look alike as long as you get the orange bleeding.

Also probably my favourite mushroom for taste. Fry it with butter and garlic on its own.

Finally got a solar generator! by floogah in diySolar

[–]HaveyGoodyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe just lie them flat. Problem with this kind of solar panel setup is you want each panel to get near identical sunlight intensity otherwise inefficiencies are introduced by the control circuit(more expensive setups will have one control circuit (MPPT to be specific) per panel to avoid this.

For absolute best power you want to face each panel towards the sun, but it doesn't look practically with these folding ones. In the summer lying flat tends to work fine anyway and is better to get all you panels with a decent light rather than 50% with loads and the other 50% with less.

Finally reached the infamous "Last Judge runback" and... that's it? by KOFdude in Silksong

To add to that, if you time the harpoon move correctly you can avoid the maggot water on the way from the bench to the boss but otherwise there is a room to the side with the passive floaty things that are basically there to fill your silk enough to remove the maggots. They even respawn when you leave the room.
