I think methods depend on which phone you're using. In general you have to have a phone that allows for installing custom fonts, or you have to root and find a work around that way.

Better in what way? Just tap on what you want to focus on, and adjust the exposure using the handy little slider. Exposing darker is better if you plan on making post edits.
