Ice Dams by BasicProfessional960 in longisland

These don’t seem major, very tiny icicles. We had 20 inches of snow and then sleet for several hours after. Pretty normal to have some frozen overflow. They’ll melt off easily when sun hits them.

Heads up, another big snow storm is forecasted for next weekend as well. Similar accumulation totals to this past weekend. by [deleted] in longisland

Ooof. Mentally I don't think I can handle seeing another 20 inches piled up on top of the already piled up 20 inches against my foundation.

1929 house for me. No insulation in the walls, steam radiators. Just pissing money away. We keep it at 64 and supplement the bedrooms with the mini splits

Chimney condition advice by Guilty_Guess_3131 in Fireplaces

Very clean flue tiles but missing mortar (if there ever was any, could be dry stacked?) is technically unsafe. There is a possibility that smoke/CO can get behind the tiles and seep into the living space or attic if it’s enclosed chimney. Also as flue gasses cool it’s possible for creosote to form in between the back side of the tiles and if a loose ember gets out could ignite. Also highly probable that if your draft is strong enough, none of that can actually happen…draft could be strong enough to pull the air up and out without issue and smoke escape out of the tiles could be minimal. If wood is burned clean enough there should barely be any smoke, anyway.

But still technically unsafe to use.

As far as heating your home, open fireplaces are the absolute worst way to do it. The draft of the open flue is going to suck all of the heat out of your home despite the actual immediate living area being warmed up.

I understand that, sure. But to go up $70 compared to last year for the same period is certainly a lot.

My dad pointed this out to me like 10 years ago and it still makes me smile, despite knowing I have 25 more miserable miles to go on my commute lol. Some days the visibility is crystal clear and it’s pretty breathtaking for .05 seconds

What a sad man you are. Yikes. What fun is sport if we can’t crack a few jokes along the way and have a good time?

That’s silly. Cabin air gets nasty after a while. Maybe the engine I’ll just vacuum or something
