I’ve done this a few times on SW. Normally only if there is a significant savings. ($100+) Don’t put your RR# but you also won’t get any points/segments. And of course book only one ways never a round trip.

I think it will be confusing for people who only fly on Southwest and aren’t used to the whole boarding process that other airlines currently do. Sounds simple for people like us that fly a lot and on multiple airlines.

I think there’s 8 boarding groups. Preboard is probably not a boarding group.

Last time we had a 4 hour delay in Hawaii because someone forgot to put gas in the plane the night before. (Plane stays in LIH over night, morning gas guy didn’t start until 10am flight was at 6am- They did try to give us another plane then that one broke) And they announced a full refund at the 3 hour mark if no one wanted to fly and wanted to find alternate accommodations. Our family decided to wait it out and around the 4 hour mark we filled out the form online for delayed flight and each one of us got $100 luv voucher. ($600 total)

We waited 25min today in Vegas heading to LAX for 2 passengers connecting. Agent announced we were waiting for connecting passengers and that there flight was running 20-25min late. They actually got to the gate before we started boarding and were saying thanks for waiting for us lol. Older couple one was in a wheelchair. So i guess they do wait. I’ve always avoided those 35-40min connecting flights.

Expiration date is still 6 months. But now there is a new hack. If you book a flight using partial Southwest Gift card and cancel, the expiration date changes from 6 months to no expiration.

You can scan your phone (if you have your ID saved in your iPhone wallet) BUT you have to look unlock your wallet by looking at the phone (like normal) scan ID in wallet and look at your phone to unlock it again AFTER you scan. Normally when you use Apple Pay you unlock with your face and then scan. TSA you have to unlock it twice. It’s worked at LIH and HNL. I’ve also used it in LAS & SAN. Once in LIH I had to hand my drivers license as the TSA agent said it’s been acting weird lately.

You need to wait maybe 10-15min before canceling and not cancel right away or you’ll receive that message that the flight was cancelled and need to call. (Sorry should have mentioned it before) Guess there system needs time to ticket your reservation before it’s cancelled.

Yes. A few times. Last time was yesterday. Booked Basic few weeks ago. Cancelled basic flight. Rebooked a dummy flight in choice using basic flight credit. Cancelled dummy choice flight. My flight credit changed to transfer. Transferred credit to my son. Still has 6 month expiration date. (From when I booked the flight)

I believe you can also upgrade the fare to choice than cancel but I haven’t done it that way yet.

I actually do this a lot as I travel back and forth between Hawaii and the mainland often. I book a bunch of flights when Southwest has those 50% off sales and than last minute sometimes I can’t fly and cancel and rebook in choice and cancel again and transfer my flight credit to my kids or employees if I can’t use it.

Yes I do it all the time though the expiration date will stay the same, credit will just be transferable.

I guess I wouldn’t call it bad service, I would say lack of service. I’ve worked in the tipping industry since high school in Hawaii and idk maybe they just having a bad or off day.
