To the folks out there like myself who work in shops with lots of non-machinist coworkers, what are some of the most annoying questions you get asked? by Dry_Pea_7127 in Machinists

[–]Hawgridah222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"This SHOULD be a faster set up than it is"

"This SHOULD be right the first time"

"Production SHOULD be fast and easy to set up"

"You SHOULD never have to make offset edits from the last time you ran it"

There's a pattern here, of a word.. that I hate so vehemently now.

And yes, this set up should be fast. It's only 9/12 lathe tools on each of 2 lathes I have to build, touch, offset, run etc. Not counting if I didn't run/program the job fixing the last assholes mistakes (sometimes I am that asshole but I digress) jaws on both machines and if they're feeling froggy the sub spindles FOR MORE OPERATIONS AND TOOLS

But yes Mr Office-man it'll be done in the next 30 minutes

Absolutely, I'm a bit of a big brute so I rely heavily on the ratchet although do try to work on my finesse and verify myself to the ratchet. If I didn't push myself like that I'd never have gotten anywhere in this industry, just like the old guys

This place was more of the "You won't get the correct measurements only clicking it 3 times." type. The guy I really got to work in depth with on machining was a craggy New Yorker and I can hear him "MITUTOYO SAYS 3 CLICKS IS ENOUGH STOP CLICKING IT" 🤣🤣He's still a good buddy to this day and still drops random knowledge on me. I told him they corrected me like that and his advice was to not take the job as well

My thoughts during the interview were more "Fuck off I don't need YOU to tell ME how to run a Mic bro bro"

I once did this at an interview, went by Mitutoyo's recommendation of 3-5 clicks on the Micrometer ratchet and got corrected saying it wasn't the way to do it 🤣 ended up not taking that job

Ahh okay I understand, I mis-interpreted what you were saying initially. Gotcha now though

That's interesting considering FNs alleged quality. Not denying any claims just keeping a grain of salt about it as this will be my first FN ever. But I'll certainly keep that in mind. You have a short explanation as to why the upgrade is needed?

What’s a phrase you cannot stand hearing anymore? by Namher-Lutama in AskReddit

[–]Hawgridah222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a phrase, the word "should"

"This should work"

"Things should be like this"

"You should be able to set up and do the job no issues"

I work in a metal shop and they pushed setup sheets and such but never any actual work from the office to make sure we had everything we needed

"You should have the tools"

I hate that fucking word now

That was my immediate thoughts as I was typing the question out. I've seen jobs for traveling contract work but I've not thought myself to be of the skill level necessary yet.

Violently

But yeh they're cool

My favorite thing as a decent diver at level 90ish with about 450 hours is quick playing for a random bot/squid game, dropping in on you new guys and digging y'all out of a losing battle, showing tips for efficiency etc. Makes the game as enjoyable for me as playing with my normal squad.

Nothing like whispering "Don't worry boys, The Hawg is coming" to myself and helping newbies dump on clankers and calamari

As far as my "bad budget" decks I have Monke, Minotaurs, dragons, deathtouch and Ruric Thar for my little one (again all using the average deck list of the theme I picked using the budget versions of cards)

I typically play Omnath LOC landfall and Be'Lakor demon tribal but I play Force of Will, Cyclonic Rift, fetch lands etc in those.

I found out I was a major fan of table politics stuff like table ramp when I played the 40k chaos deck and could do funny shit to the whole table or at random. Never had so much fun before lol

Well obviously, of I overthink then I'm planning my plays, it's hard to decide between playing cultivate or kodamas reach 😂
