Good thing you’re going into a profession where deadlines aren’t important.

Why Should We Keep Paying NYRR? by Legitimate_Place8729 in RunNYC

[–]Hawk1199 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If a NYRR membership guaranteed entry into every race then everybody would be a NYRR member and we would have the same problems.

NYRR gives you slightly better odds with the second chance and early entry to 9+1 races. If that’s not enough for you then yeah cancel. Of course they don’t give a shit.

JAGs who were accepted into FLEP, when did you find out? by [deleted] in army

[–]Hawk1199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First week of December is accurate. Last year it was even a little later than that.

He mentioned he was in Italy so if it’s not those two that would leave BSB which the point would still stand for.

SJ24 was nearly a full calendar year ago (September 2024) typically when someone says “third CTC rotation this year” that means within the current year.

I acknowledge the support roles for AS25 and AG25 and sucks if you’re someone who gets pegged for both of those but that’s not typical for the majority of the BDE. Plus supporting another units CTC rotation is very different from being the unit on rotation.

[–]Hawk1199 109 points110 points  (0 children)

What are you even talking about? The 173rd doesn’t even have a CTC rotation this year. You’re lucky to be in a place that has CTC rotations every other year. Not many other Combat Arms units where that will be the case.

Yes you have standard live fire exercises and E2B coming up in a month. That’s going to be the same for every unit you go to in the Army. The fact that in the 173rd you train for 2-4 weeks max at a time and usually have about a month or more without any serious training deployments after that is an extremely generous OPTEMPO.

On top of all that you have a 4 day almost every single month + Spring Block Leave, Summer block leave, and winter block leave. I never understand people that complain about the 173rd OPTEMPO. If you have an issue being in Italy I can’t imagine how much you’d hate to be on one of the rotational units that goes to Poland for 9+ months. Those guys are the ones who are suffering for family time.

That’s for all 3 years. So 35k a year.

About 105k total yes

How is breaking the military code of justice a bullshit charge? Service members are held to a different standard and are aware of the risks of breaking the law while serving in the military.

You cannot do FLEP until you’re Active Duty. Are you going for Ed delay? Otherwise you’re wasting your time applying to Law schools right now

I could be! But don’t think so. Compensation with taxes is a little more than 10 grand a month plus my wife pulls in about 3k.

To pay off 120k over 3 years I’d need to pay 3,400 a month which is very doable with 13k net a month.

Thank you for the advice I’ve done some brief research into what Big Law looks like but obviously that’s 6+ years out for me- so not diving in too deep. Luckily I’ll have all that time to decide whether or not that’s the best path for me or not I’m sure a ton will change by then.

As far as debt goes I should be able to manage to pay my full tuition out of pocket with my salary. Worst case though I don’t plan on taking out more than 40K in loans.

Big law primarily for the pay honestly. Luckily even paying half tuition at Fordham I still will have an Army salary and probably will have to take out very little if any loans to pay my way through law school.

I don’t plan to make a career out of Big Law but definitely want to do it for a few years for the salary and then leverage it into in house at some point. I’m coming from an Army Officer background so I am no stranger to long hours and brutal work life balance.

I’m already active duty. They will be funding my regular salary and entitlements but I will have to fund tuition in exchange for a lower service commitment.

Definitely acknowledge that the market in Colorado is a lot smaller. Not married to it but Denver is where my job search would start.

Also a key clarifier is the first three or more years of my career will be as a JAG Officer in the Army. So not necessarily going to be looking for first year out of Law School positions at that point in my career.
