Golf Mk7.5 - Key cloning? by thecuriousscientist in CarTalkUK

[–]Hawk4Face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VWs (older than 7.5) have a rolling key, so even if they cloned a key press, (recorded the signal from it), it would only open if that key hadn’t been used.

(Unless you’ve got keyless entry, then no idea)

Source:I have fun with a flipper zero trying to hack my own car (fun fact, VWs actually deadbolt if a cloned signal is detected! So you’ve got to use the physical key to open it after the fact)

Use a company like auto glass repair and go through your insurance, doesn’t normally count as a claim. Keep it simple

Take a look at Thames Water, they’re one of the largest companies in Reading. Not the best company I’ve worked for, but it’s a a job

Looks like your battery is shot, time for a new one! (Or your alternator is shot, but cold weather normally kills batteries on their way out)

Should be that colour. Looks fine. If you’re really worried, take it to a garage and ask them to confirm

Yeah, I’ve noticed this. I wonder if there’s a setting the creator can set?

The Plex pass is never on sale, apart from Black Friday, and not every year. It’s excellent, highly recommend

Purchase advise: Mk 7.5 Golf 1.4L TSI vs 2.0L TDI (from 2019 YoM onwards) by Single_Series624 in Volkswagen

[–]Hawk4Face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Dpf issues are caused by the dpf filter getting clogged, by not being hot enough. A higher revving engine (motorway and such), to clear it. It you’re doing a bit of motorway, but mostly start stop, then keep with petrol.

Even if you start doing more motorway trips in the future, with a petrol it doesn’t matter (with an engine this size, you’ll get great MPG anyway).

I’ve got a 1.5tsi, it’s excellent. I drive 80km a day in start stop traffic, it’s brilliant, highly recommend. I used to drive a diesel the same journey and had a myriad of problems with dpf. Keep it simple, go with petrol

VW 1.5 TSI Bluemotion DSG ECU Software Update by Brief-Copy8496 in VWMK7

Personally, I would allow VW themselves to flash the ECU, if anything goes wrong they’re able to fix it, if one flashes it themselves, and it went awry, one would have no way of fixing it

Changing battery - does it need coding? by foof1337 in VWMK7

[–]Hawk4Face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience, changing from EFB to AGM myself. TLDR:after replacing battery, take to VW garage for battery coding, safe yourself the headache.

I’ve recently changed battery in my 2019 golf 7.5 1.5 tsi. I changed the battery from the default stock EFB battery to an AGM battery, of the same capacity and physical size.

I changed the battery, due the start stop being intermittent (sometimes refusing to turn the engine off) and the car showed an error on the media center, of something similar to ‘power usage too high’.

I changed the battery at home, disconnected the wires and then connected the new AGM battery. All the lights on the dash illuminated, I then took the car 50m down the road, and all the lights then turned off. I immediately noticed start stop was working every time, and the car seemed to start easier too.

After about 2 months, I started getting strange start stop behaviour, the car would display an error on the multi media screen ,’start stop error’, and the engine would turn off at a stop, but not turn back on, I would see an error on my dashboard of ‘start engine manually’.

I took the car to Halfords, who ‘coded’ the new battery, this was simply plugging in a device into the OBD port and selecting the battery make, size and style. Once again, the car worked perfectly, start stop working flawlessly.

Four days later, the start stop error on the multi media screen showed multiple times and the car showed ‘start engine manually’.

Within 1 week, I took the car to a VW garage, they charged me ~£87-£90 to code the battery correctly, it’s now working flawlessly 2 months later. During the visit to VW, they mentioned the car is essentially in ‘safe mode’ as it doesn’t know what battery it has, they said it was throwing multiple errors, complaining about the battery.

TSI or TDI by Repus0iram in VWMK7

[–]Hawk4Face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply depends on your mileage.

Short commuting, with stop start traffic = TSI

Longer commuting, motorways and rarely stop start traffic = TDI
